Hell yes it's on!!! After that nice long description of the bike course I gave to you Jeff went and changed it up!! It looks like a much better course that may have an extra climb in it.

I am really excited about seeing everyone there!!

It DOES look like a nice course! I can't wait! Anything will be easier than the bike course in Kansas, even if it has a few climbs.

I'm excited about the new course as well, because my family is staying at Sampson. They can just lounge around all day and still get to cheer me on a lot! I can't wait to race!

Hi there,
I am writing from Rochester, NYwhich is an hour from Geneva. I just rode the course 2 weeks ago. The bike course is a nice ride where you can really move. There are a few moderate hills with one hill that's steeper than the rest and about .4 of a mile in length. The roads are in good condition, a few need some minor repairs. It gets a bit bumpy from cracked cement once you get into Sampson State Park. This is towards the end of the ride and goes on for about 5 miles. Just as you enter Sampson State Park it's gravel but small gravel.

The run course is hilly and scenic.

Overall, I think it will be a great race course!

Where in ROC are you from? I grew up there and went to school Upstate, so it will be nice to tour the area on bike/foot.

I grew up in Greece. I've driven through Geneva once or twice, but haven't spent a lot of time there. It's a cute little town, from what I've seen though. I'm excited to head up a few days before and go wine tasting

I can't even find the other thread! And I'm from Rochester living in Michigan, so both of you are my neighbors. I worked in Webster and Spencerport while there and now work in Macomb County here.

The course is different from last year, but it looks like the fast bits are still there. I haven't done the Sampson portion of the course, but look forward to the finish on Lake Road. With the likely slight tailwind, it should be much better than the western route finish thru rolling hills with a head wind that I had last year!!

We have so much in common! So do you think the weather here in MI is worse than ROC? I do! This winter sucked....

Anyways, when are you headed to NY for the race?

It is a GREAT event.  Last time, Jeff made me feel like a pro with all the individual attention and organization.  I did Tupper Lake last year and it was a downer after Musselman in 06.  I can't wait!

Yeah, me too! I picked this one last fall as my second Half IM event ever after reading about it from the race's website. I had visited the Finger Lakes region on vacation and thought it would be great to do a race there! I just hope it's not quite as hot as Eagleman was a few weeks ago. For my first Half IM event, truly a trial by fire! A scorcher on the run. But, I did finish. So, kinda looking to improve a bit from that event now that I'm a bit wiser Good luck to all and have fun no matter what!

Sorry I haven't been around, on vacation!! I'm doing both the mini and HIM, so driving to Rochester on thursday after work or friday morning, I'm not sure yet. I'm visiting my family for the week after and then heading to IMLP to volunteer before driving back to MIchigan on the monday after.

DAMN!  I just got hit by a car on Thursday and may have to scratch Musselman.  Its a deep thigh bruise(hematoma).  I been able to ride and swim but I haven't run yet.  My first scheduled run is a tempo run on Thursday.  That will decide it.  Hopefully, I will see you all there.  It's a great race!

OUCH!! Sorry to hear about the accident.I hope all will be okay with your run and we'll see you next weekend! It's worth the trip even if you don't race!

I ran over a rabbit this weekend with 1 arm on the aero bars and the other reaching for a banana. I can't believe it didn't take me out!! I managed to go behind 1 mailbox, in front of another and hop back on the road without dropping the banana! Whew!!

See everyone next week!!

OW! Sounds like you're okay overall and thank goodness for just a bruise (though sounds pretty bad too). Just a thought, but unless you really want a PR, do the swim and bike and walk/jog the run portion just to finish and have fun with the event. And you may possibly not want to attempt the tempo run but let your body heal as much as possible. If you've been training, taking the week off just before the event from running may actually help you overall during the actual event. I had an Achilles tendon problem for weeks during my Eagleman training and really had to lay off for months. I don't think I ran longer than 7 miles during training. But, things slowly got better before race day and I decided to walk if I had to just to finish. Turns out lots of people were walking due to the heat. But, I was able to run/jog to each aid station just fine. I walked through the aid station, ran/jogged to the next. I didn't have any Achilles problems during the entire run portion. Whatever you decide, hope you're still able to participate and enjoy yourself as it sounded like you've done it before. Me, my first Musselman and looking forward to it! Good luck, heal fast!

Subject: Musselman Lodging

Any Musselman people need a dorm room in the "athlete's village" for Friday and/or Saturday July 11-12 ($35 per night)  I reserved a single room but can't use it.  The lodging coordinator told me that the reservation is transferrable, but not cancellable.

If interested, email me at [email protected]

You might want to advertise the dorm room on the rats web site or the buffalo triathlon website. someone might not have planned on staying original but now with gas prices up and if they are going to be there two days might want it.

Subject: Coming up out of the swim - any problems with mussels?
As this is my first Musselman, I thought I'd ask whether the mussels have caused anyone any problems coming up out of the swim? I read several race reports and it doesn't appear that anyone has, even though there was a low water level one year and folks were walking a good stretch. I had seen video with some folks in T1 with Aqua Socks on, but I didn't know how many folks were using those. So, any issues here? I'd hate to have to bike and then run with cut feet.
