After a twenty year absence from sports and many barriers over the years to getting back into I most appreciated being able to run my favorite trail loop again. It is a beautiful place that I thought I would never be able to run around again. It meant more to me to be able to complete that simple loop than all the race accomplishments after that.

--Lost 75 lbs (goal was originally 58, then 61...just kept going...and glad I did)

--10K in under an hour (back in 2005...my first race in 26 years, after starting running again about 10 mos. earlier...I ended up shocking myself with not just a sub-60, but a sub-50 min. finish)

--Sub-4 marathon (It took two attempts--first one was sub-5 with no stops and no walking until the end of mile 22, but that still felt like a disappointment. Second time was the charm: not just sub-4, but sub-9 min mile pace, which I didn't expect.)

Triathlon was never really the subject of any dreams or goals, but I've been proud of:

--Sub 1-hour on the Malibu Tri bike leg on first attempt/first tri ever (18 miles...on a cheap roadie with no clipless pedals)
--Won my (admittedly pretty small) AG in my second tri.

Oh, and recently got to be a "local standby" contestant on JEOPARDY! (Which means I got to show up, do all the rehearsals, and be one of two alternates on hand all day in case of unusual need for additional contestant during the taping of five shows.) Since I didn't get to play that day and the show's usual policy is to invite you back at a later date with a guarantee of actually playing, there's a good chance that that nearly-lifelong dream will become reality, perhaps in August.

I have accomplished being able to run again. (My ankle injury was very bad and I never thought I would run again.)

I have also learned how to swim as an adult (Swam 750 yards last night after 2 months of swim lessons)

I coached a soccer team. (Yes, it was an intramural league and we went the season without winning a single game, but I still coached the team.)

A year ago I couldn't run a mile. I took a jogging class and completed my first race...a 12K. This summer I started doing 5-milers with my dad every Sunday.

Last Friday I ran 2.12 miles in 16:38 and set a new PR. I never though I could ever run below 10 minute miles...ever.

+Swimming 1000 yds in a workout and increasing to 100 yd sets
+Losing 5 lbs (not much I know!)

And many other greats!

One of the things to add to my "dream" list is to climb in the Alps - not the same location, I know, but still.  Maybe Ventoux as well, but that would make for a hellacious European vacation!

Congrats on climbing that beast.

Switch out the word "girls" for "boys" and you have half the reason I get coerced into the sports that I do (Really, it's only maybe a 1/6 of the reasons that I do triathlons, etc, but it's definitely a good motivator )

Your kids are super-cute, btw
