When would you use one vs. the other? We're working on experimenting with nutrition for our half ironman and will be investing in some endurolytes and a few other Hammer Nutrition products...just trying to determine which will be a better fit for our needs.

Thoughts? Advice?

I'll freely take your two cents.

I believe that Perpetuem is designed for longer distances, or longer events timewise. I personnally have used HEED several times and liked it, I used perpetuem and liked it, but really couldn't tell the difference performance wise between the two???

Long distance is relative I guess. Would it make sense to use during half iron distance and marathon? Or the full 140.3?

I'm just having issues wrapping my head around it...

Hammer's website says that HEED is designed for events less than two hours, Perpetuem for events longer than two hours.  I'm not sure how fast you'll finish a 70.3....

There is really good information on this over at the Hammer site:

I use my Perpetuem on long rides over three hours.  I like the taste and it seems to help me feel "full".  I like the ability to make the mix as strong as you want, because I am one of those people who doesn't do well on the Gatorade Endurance.

I use Perpeteum exclusively on the bike and for 3+ hour training rides.  This stuff is an all-in-one, so no gels, GE, endurolytes (unless it is really hot), etc. are needed.  You can get away with two bottles for the ride: one with a concentrated Perpeteum mix 3-5 servings and a water bottle to help wash it down.  The stuff tastes like an orange creamsicle and is good enough to concentrate the servings.  I used this plan in training for and racing IMFL last year and am using it again for my 70.3 next month and IMKY.  For the run, I find it more difficult to digest and I usually will/want to switch to gels and GE at that point.

Just to echo what everyone else has said - Perpetuem is for anything over 2 hours. I, however, mix endurolytes in mine (I use the powder). I spoke with the Hammer rep last year when trying to figure out my nutrition issues and was told there weren't enough electrolytes in Perpetuem to use standalone, it's designed to be customized with the amount you need (based on your weight and experience). I use it both on the bike and the run (tris and marathons) for anything over a sprint.

I have used HEED in the past for shorter distances, but have recently switched to another brand. It's a great product though.

I don't have anything to add re: the efficacy of one over the other, but am I the only one who things HEED tastes like the candy stick from Lik-a-Mix?
