Expert 1170 Berkley, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon So is anyone else nervous about AA? It is my first tri and I am still a little freaked out by the OWS. I have major pool and lake time scheduled this week - but if anyone wants to meet out at Trout Lake this week please let me know! I can be at Trout Lake between 5:30 and 6PM any night that is noted below:
So if anyone is interested in meeting out this week for an OWS, I am game! Also - if anyone needs some trail running experience, I can on Wednesday or Friday meet you out at Maybury State Park to get in some trails with you.
Good luck to everyone doing the AA tri! *nervous giggles*

Veteran 168 Brighton, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon My "plan" is this: Long bike today, trail run tomorrow, long OWS on weds, easy brick on thurs, easy something on fri, rest sat, do AA on sun morning, drink for the rest of the day. All training to be done out Brighton/KMP/ILRA way. So, If you wanna do weds, I'll meet ya at ILRA for a Trout or Spring Mill swim at at 5:30. Edited by h2osnowfan 2008-06-02 12:06 PM |

Expert 771 Farmington, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon Yes, a tad nervous here. Unfortunately, I will be in Indiana from tomorrow through friday, so that totally screws my week up. I'm going to swim (in a pool) tomorrow morning since its going to rain, then hope to get at least one big bike ride and one more run in while I'm in Indy. Maybe another bike ride on Friday and either rest or an OWS on Saturday at Trout lake. Game on, on Sunday! |

I just got my brand spanking new wetsuit and NEED DESPERATELY to try it before Motor City. I just hope the weather holds out. Is looking pretty shaky all week. You guys are all gonna do great!!! Elite Endeavors does a great job with their races. And, well, if it's any incentive, their post race food is YUMMM-EEE |

I'm guessing socks are required for anyone that doesn't treat their feet with hide tanner ... The trail was actually in GREAT shape. Soft, but firm, with a couple sand patches - but you can run on the edge of the trail. A couple thoughts....1) if you walk during the tri, bring bug spray - the black flies and skeetos were pretty thick. If you're running, they really didn't get much of a chance to land on you, so it's not necessary, 2) if you're sensitive to poison ivy, bring some Ivyblock - the three-leaf menace is out in FORCE this year, and be especially careful passing on the trail. And socks are optional - If you've practiced in the shoes and know they won't tear you up, go for it sockless...but if you haven't practiced it IN THOSE SAME SHOES, I'd stick with sox. |

Master 1390 Ferndale, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon yep, yep, yep...6:15 is the meet time for swimming. I get there around 5:15 and try to ride one loop of the course before the swim (tho that idea played havoc on my calves when getting out of the wetsuit last week).
traveljini, I'll be sure to look for you. Will you be in transition or out on the course? |

Hmmm... I think that this would be a good idea for me as well. If I can get there that early... I took your advise and have been eating 2 bananas a day instead of 1, and I have been drinking loads of H20. |

Master 1920 Ann Arbor, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon I second Rick's advice on the mosquitos- I got lost on the trail twice this weekend and was eaten alive. Other than that, the trail is beautiful, but brutal, in a good way Another tip for those that haven't ridden those roads yet is that the section on Doyle is AWFUL- the potholes are almost unavoidable. If you have a behind the seat water bottle holder you absolutely will lose your bottles. Be careful! Does anyone know if they close the roads for the race? If not, there are a lot of blind curves, and if you have to go out to the middle of the road to avoid potholes, it can be a bit tricky. I'll be there supporting my boyfriend in his first race, so I look forward to meeting more MI BTers! And if anyone is interested, we're planning on camping the night before at Crooked Lake campground. Goodluck and have fun! |

Master 1327 Ann Arbor, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon Kimm: Sunday, I'm gonna try to come out a bit early and meander about transition, etc., till our assignment leader shows up. So I'll definitely look for you and RunnerGirl and hopefully see other BTers!! Thursday, I too might try to do a bike loop before the swim cuz I usually get out of work at 4 from Ann Arbor.... 6:15 meet, means 6:30 swim. I gotta get used to these later P.M. workouts! I ended up getting a Quintano Roo Full suit and it fits awesome. I can't believe it actually so am pretty excited to try it out and see how fast I go with my new personal flotation device. Veteran 168 Brighton, MI | Subject: RE: Ann Arbor Triathlon I'm doing a trail run at Brighton Rec Area today around 5 or 6. Five to six miles of hills rivaling the poto in terms of brutality. Anyone want to join? My plan was to ows on weds, but maybe I'll make it thurs so I won't have to swim alone. |
