xmann, you sound exactly like me. I kept switching back and forth from a hybrid to a road to a tri.  I decided to end up putting slicks on my mt. bike for my first tri (only a sprint though) and then if i am still enjoying the training and i love the race, the wife says I can buy whatever I want.

Good luck with the choice and let us know what you choose along with pics Laughing

Glad to hear that you got some help from someone at the shop! I think you will be happy with the road bike once you get over the initial apprehension.

I don't know anything about those 2 specific bikes but I think the best advice I've read on here is to get the best bike you can afford. (if that means the $850 bike then so be it) I didn't do that on my first bike purchase and wished I had.

Good luck and post some pics when you decide!

thanks for all the replies and advice.

i've decided to go with the Sequoia Elite for $1200.   i felt really good on it and actually no apprehension like i did with the other bikes earlier in the week.   i think because the salesman really knew what he was doing and fitted me properly made all the difference.

i'm actually considering riding it back and forth to work a couple days a week.   excited about getting it and doing some riding.

thanks again to everyone.

Congrats.  Remember you can always find a cheap MTB to tool around with.  Just check out yard sales or even Walmart.  You can get one for probably $50.
