Kind of wanting to do my first ever tri this year - but I find it surprising that there are so few in the central KY region  - what gives?? (and do we need to focus some effort on setting up a race or two?).

Moved down here from Indiana, where there are sprint/oly tri's all over the place.

And I don't think IM-Louisville is quite right for me . . . yet.

The Headfirst group has a few early in the year. Then there is one in Bowling Green in early Sept and then the Tri for Sight in early Oct in Lex. I recommend that one. I have done both the past 2 years, but the Tri for Sight is well done.

Check out this site, http://www.trifind.com/ky.html.  I don't know if there is anything listed that is reasonably close to you, but it is the most comprehensive list that I am aware of.

I am new to Tri's and the area as devilwillride
says Trifind is the best list not the only but the best if you are looking in one place.  Oldham Co has several races Du and Tri and Shelby Co does also.  Where are you?

Yeah, its pretty good. The run is really flat. The swim gets a little hectic though. There is two way traffic in each lane and then with people trying to pass, it can lead to an open water atmosphere. The bike isn't bad either. Couple of hills, but nothing major. And its a decent sized race, so it leads to a good atmosphere.

Thanks for the recommendation - sounds like a good race.  If I can get over the 2nd degree burn on my foot, and actually get some swim in somewhere here in Etown (any affordable recommendations, PT? (Etown S&F is not that affordable, IMO)), I'll likely sign up.

Would be nice not to have to invest in a wetsuit for my first tri.

Thanks again.  And I'll take you up on the ride offer from earlier, once I get my base back up - just can't even fit my foot in a shoe right now.

The race in Lex is an indoor pool. No suits. I work for the hospital, so I get a great deal for ESFC. I don't know what their price is otherwise. I do know that they have a summer "Pool Pass" that you can buy, but again, I don't know the price. Thats where I swim. Plus, you get to swim at TK Stone during the winter on T, TH,Sat, Sun, which is nice for me. I hate the place about 75% of the time, but I have no other options. The new clinic the hospital is building is going to have a sweet pool similar to an endless pool, so I'll have some other options this winter.

The E.P "Tom" Sawyer Park sprint triathlon is here in Louisville on August 2.  It's a pool swim with start time based on estimated speed.  The  bike coarse will be moderately hilly.  The run should be fairly flat.  This will be my second sprint, 3rd total tri.

My only goal for sept is to survive IMKY so I can get married on the 23rd. Depending on how I feel, I may try to do the Tri for Sight in early Oct, but thats a big if.

A Sept OWS might be a little cold right? A good race for a wetsuit maybe, though in a sprint you would probably waste more time getting the dang thing off than just swimming without it.

Depends on what kind of innuendo the t-shirt would illustrate -

Sorry, should've posted this on COJ

Depending on how this year goes - maybe next year!

If you're doing it - good luck.

Thanks. I just want to finish. Get some positive vibes before the IM.

Hows your foot doing? Did you get any treatment or anything? I'm a physical therapist and we treat burns pretty frequently? You get any Silvadene or anything to put on it?

And here I was thinking the PT meant Part-Time

The foot's (finally) healing up - just a frustrating spot to receive a burn.  Started back training on Sunday.  So far, so good - minus a flat in the rain on Monday.

Well...part time in training I guess. I wish I could work part time and train full time. Unfortunately, I can't pull in that kind of jack.

I'm doing Tom Sawyer (live just nearby), which will be my 4th Sprnt (all in pools). I am looking for an Olympic distance (with open water) to do to end my first season, but am having trouble. I was scheduled to do one in Akron on the 6th of Sept, but may not be able to get up there. What (and how long) is the Moorehead thing?

If you looking for a short Tri there is one in Oldham Co. it is 1/4 mile swim 8 mile bike and 2 mile run there is a pretty good size hill but it's not bad if its close to teh same course as the duo I did a few months back over there.

I think it will be a good one to learn on.  I did Tri Indy last Sunday and had a blast it was my first and can't wait until Sept 6th to go to Oldham Co.  I have been told a few times that tri's are addictive and it's the truth.  Althought I will have to say that I didn't think I would ever see the day when I pay more for a T-shirt at a race than a Harley shop!
