Total Time = 2h 43m 48s
Overall Rank = 116/346
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 29/44
Pre-race routine:

We stayed at a Best Western in Lagrange so we wouldn't have to get up at 3:30. I ate breakfast at the IHOP (three pancakes) and then loaded the bikes.
Event warmup:

Chatted with friends.
Swim
  • 33m 22s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was a time trial start and I started with the slow folks. I did great through the first turn. After that I had a leg cramp and started taking the scenic route to the next bouy. This was my best swim performance so I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Swim straighter?
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

I felt like I was moving slow. My rack area was packed with bikes, but by the time I got there everyone was gone! I had all the space I needed.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 7s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.85 mile/hr
Comments:

I came out of T1 and started up the hill. I though I was going to puke. It took the first few miles to get the stomach and HR to calm down. I had a lot of trouble drinking and eating for the rest of the ride, but I think I got enough. half a water bottle and 2 squeezes from the gu flask wasn't the original plan, but it got me through. My goal was to average 20 mph and I did that fairly easily.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. If the sun would have come out earlier I would have been in trouble on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Where did all these bikes come from? The bike rack was filled when I got back and I had to take some extra time to carefully lift my bike up and in to the rack. It was so tight that all the bikes were touching! Anyway, the bikes next to me were really nice ($5000+) and I didn't want any bad karma.

Once I got the bike racked I noticed someone had double knotted my running shoes! It couldn't have been that I am so stupid that I left them double knotted. Probably was a transition gnome.
What would you do differently?:

Leave the shoes untied.
Run
  • 53m 1s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I wanted to run at 8 min mile pace, but I never got going. I stayed in lolly gagger gear and enjoyed a beautiful day. I tried to run slow out of T2 and then pick it up once I found my legs. It felt like I just got stuck at that speed though. Next time I'm just going to run. Also, my lack of motivation could have been caused by the lack of fuel I took in. I felt fine, but maybe it had something to do with it.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder. force liquids down on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Nada. drank 3 bottles of water and a red bull.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of ability? I never know how to answer that question! Anyway, I had a blast! Maybe if I had remembered to bring beer. Beer always increases my performance.

Event comments:

This is a nice race. Very well organized.

You beat your predicted time. Nice Racing. You definitely need to invest in some yankz for the running shoes. I use them full time and will never go back to laces. See ya at the next race.. oh, and bring some beer.

Great (and fun) race report on what turned out to be a good race ... and good way to run off some IHOP in the morning!

Btw, I believe that Yankz is a Georgia company (Stone Mountain?) and have heard the owner is a nice guy ... http://yankz.com/
