MMSPS

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 42m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 4/19
Pre-race routine:

Typical protein shake and a little water pre race
Event warmup:

Set up transition and take a quick dip in the lake. NICE!
Swim
  • 12m 32s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK, who was this girl inside my body? I took off and just swam fast and far (for me). I popped up and did breast stroke for a little bit, just to see where I was and bam! I was almost to the first bouy. What?

It was actually harder to breast stroke than it was to free style, so I'd say like 80% of the swim was free style and at a quicker pace than the 800m I did 2 weeks ago. TO put it into perspective - I did the 500m in LESS THAN HALF of the time it took me to do the 800m last week! That is MAJOR improvement in 2 weeks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! Well, swim more freestyle, but I am on my way there!
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

No sock issues!
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in transition. YES - you read that correctly. MORE time.

I get super dizzy after the swim, and my HR is elevated at the start of the ride - it takes me a good mile or two to really get up to speed on the bike. Whoooo.
Bike
  • 46m 54s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 15.86 mile/hr
Comments:

I definitely did not consume enough of my nutrition!

Now here is the thing. I knew that the last hill was going to be crazy, so I had planned on walking the bike up it. I know, I know. But that was my plan! I have accepted it!

So I go out for the 6.4 miles or so, averaging like between 18 19mph which is super sweet for me, then on the return my average sunk to around 12 or so. The hills were killing me on the return, I think that I may focus a LOT more on hills - like big hills - moving forward.

Anyhow - I finally make it to the big hill, and I start up it. half way up I decided to save my legs and I hopped off the bike and walked up the last bit of the hill.

At the crest I hopped back on and zoomed into the finish.

All in all it was a good and appropriate ride for my abilities, even if I had to walk up a bit of that hill.
What would you do differently?:

Consume more nutrition on the bike and learn to HTFU a little more - ok well how about just getting in more TITS!

Def. better than AA's bike ride. Definitely.
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

Sweet!
What would you do differently?:

Not take in the last Hammer Gel if I did not think that I needed it... because I didn't... *ugh*
Run
  • 36m 19s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Oh boy. Being a runner has failed me here. LMAO not really - I just had a bad stroke of tummy luck coming out of T2. :) I took a gel before the run as I always do and it was really messing with my tummy this time. :( I felt ewwwwy for the first 1.5 miles, but I pulled it out in the end and ran strong the last 1.1 miles.

I need to HTFU certainly - but that will come with time in the saddle and time on the road.

What would you do differently?:

Not walk so much. :)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to the eating area and hung out with Kristen, Trixie, Dave, Jo, Trish, and everyone as they completed the sprint.

Ate 1 piece of cheese pizza, and had a lot of heed and H20 to settle me down. Watched Matt, Robyn, and Jaclyn finish the Oly, as well as all my FAST people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Again, only myself. I am new and I accept that. I have grown a lot since AA and I am still finding my tri style.

This tri was amazing compared to AA - but at the end of the day I love them both equally. I am excited for the reamaining tri's for this season, and I have really got a good plan ahead of me for the next three or four months.

Event comments:

The timing was WAY off for me and they gave me 1st Athena... which I so did not win! I gave back the award and the timing was still not changed. My times posted here are all estimates for right now. Once official results are posted, I will have a for real breakdown of events. Overall results posted, no AG yet due to still figuring out where everyone ended up. Will update more when available! Wow! I placed 4th out of 19 in my age group!

Awesome time over all- just lousy time tracking - a lot of disputes during awards!

Great job!!! great bike and run times even with walking up part of that hill and part of the run due to your tummy issues! Get the nutrition down and you'll be good It was great meeting you, hopefully I'll see you at a few more events this year!
