I can't even imagine doing something on the scale of an IM at Hagg Lake. The venue just can't support it.

One road in and out, NO anything for spectators/spouses/sherpas/kids to do, nearest civilization is, what, 8+ miles away...

I'd rather do Esprit...

Oooh!! An m-dot race in the fall in Oregon would be perfect for those of us who are archenemies with sun and heat.

What they're proposing is a point-to-point race. Certainly unique for a NA WTC event, but doable. An IM race in Bend would have to be a point-to-point race as well, and I imagine Eugene would be also.

Bend and Eugene are more typical IM venues in terms of size vs. Forest Grove, but Forest Grove is just outside the Portland Metro area and there's plenty of lodging opportunities within 30 minutes drive.

RI 70.3 will be a point to point race in a couple weeks. T1 is down by the beach and T2 is in Providence.

I worry personally as other RI races first time often are messed up. Hopefully this race will pull off it well.

I couldn't imagine qualify in Sept for Kono in Oct.  The recovery would be tough and the travel arrangements difficult!

Note - I can't imagine qualify for Kono in any month.  Just saying for those that would.

The race would be the last official qualifier for anyone aspiring to compete in next year’s Ironman World Championship, held in Kona, Hawaii.

You would have a year to recover.

Now that would make much more sense.  I had forgotten that MOO and FL qualify for the following year.

I don't think I am reading it that way. If Oregon gets one it won't be til next year and it is saying it would be the last opportunity  to qualify for Kona NEXT YEAR. Now Louisville will be the last weekend in August this year and that qualifies for Kona this year so I guess it would be another couple of weeks later.

So I agree, that could make travel a bit tough but heck if I qualified I think I could figure it out Cool

Having lived there I would have to say no to Bend, I just hated it. Eugene would be ideal, beautiful area and great local support.
