How does a city or state become a "contender as a venue" for an Ironman race? Is WTC out actively soliciting proposals from areas that it has already targeted? Or do these cities just call up WTC and throw their name into the mix?

TexasScooterB - 2008-06-26 12:53 PM Having lived there I would have to say no to Bend, I just hated it. Eugene would be ideal, beautiful area and great local support.

Man, how could you hate Bend, Oregon.  That place was awesome, beautiful and every other good word in the dictionary!

I was hoping it would be Bend so I could travel back there!  That drive by Mt. Hood is amazing!

X2.  I used to live in Portland... still trying to figure out why I left...

I remember spending my time climbing at Smith Rocks, skiing Mt. Bachelor, rafting the Deschutes, drinking Black Butte Porter... nothing better...

A very reputable source at Malibu Tri on Sunday said he'd heard 2010 for IM Oregon. Anyone else got any newer/better info? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on doing an IM and was figuring AZ '09 (driving distance) or MOO '10 (nostalgia trip...I'm a UW-Madison alum), but my "source" is going to try to pull together a training team presence at OR in 2010 and that support would be great. Love to know if that's really real at this point or if it might actually be happening next year.

I am strangely intrigued.

Question from a curious newb:  does adding an additional qualifier lower the number of qualifying seeds in other races thereby making them more competitive?

Looks like I found my own answer...sorry if this link/quote already has been posted elsewhere...didn't see it in a forum search...

"Originally touting Ironman Oregon for September of 2009, Wednesday the Ironman Corporation told NewsChannel 21 it cannot comment on pending races, but if it were to happen, it would be at least two years away. "

I assume you mean Kona qualifier..   THought is that they will remove the slots they currently have at a couple 70.3s, California and....  another one

I don't know when you lived there. A lot has changed there in the last 5 years, but it still might not be to your liking.

No thanks! It sounds like just another overpriced, crowded course, draft fest.
