I am still on a Flagstaff high (maybe it was the lack of oxygen) but I was thinking about whether or not I want to do this race again.

It was definitely one of the funnest races I have EVER done. High on the hardcore factor though:
- All trail
- Rain (snowy slush)
- Cold
- Mud
- Starts at insane elevation, climbs to even "insaner" elevation

But check out the pics: (Play SPOT the SPORTY)

Race Website

All trails are 100% off-road with varying (single-track, cross-country, dirt roads) terrain. Elevation gains are approximately 2200 feet for the full marathon, 1100 feet for the half-marathon, and 450 feet for the 10Km loop. The course ranges from 8000 feet to 8600 feet above sea level. The marathon has been described as the most scenic and difficult marathon in the Southwest.

Let me know if anyone else is interested!

I'd have to carry an oxygen tank with me!

That sounds like fun- maybe the 10k or half. I'll have to talk to the fam about it!

Definitely would be interested in the 10k. I love altitude and cold, crappy weather. Since it's all trail and hills and altitude I might be able to convince Z to do it as well. We have strange conditions for things we enjoy.

I can put up one person, no kids, no dogs, no meat, and no partying because I need sleep the night before the race. So, basically if you're ready for a convent, you can stay with me. Laughing

Paulette, you always have a free place to stay while you're here. There's even a Lil' Guy waiting to share a bed with you!!  We can talk about sharing a ride up here as well.

I'd like to be in for the 1/2 marathon!! (of course this goes with a disclaimer for not being injured from training for the run).

That's a tough one because it's all trails and pretty rocky ones. No smooth surface. It'll be a lot of effort concentrating on your step. Do you run rough trails at all in training? I mean those that aren't just gravel roads but single-track hiking trail kinda trails?

Peej - J and I ran alot of Usery to train for it last year. There will be walking, as there are parts of the trail that are snowshoe trails and you literally cannot run up it (its like single footing) but knowing you and your crazy sense of adventure you would probably LOVE it. It was my slowest half by far but it went by so quickly. It is a 2 loop race though and I kinda hate those as they give you an easy out to just do the half buuuuut again knowing you I am sure you would not. The female winner last year was 3:51 so there are some pretty hardcore runners, but the average finisher time was 4:46. I mean 2200 feet of elevation gain? Thats like running yesterdays bike course!!! Awesome.

No effing way! I tried to run this morning before I left Flagstaff, and my little 3 mile run was killing me. I just can't handle the air up there. Besides, I'll be preparing for the Longhorn as well. That's my excuse.

Paulettejo - 2008-07-21 1:41 PM What about the Marathon???...I'm being nuts here, but what if I just want to get this over with...

I'm in for the Marathon!  Anyone else?  My goal for the race will be to hang with Paulette for the first two miles.

Well, if I'm up in Flag that weekend, I'll try to keep you company. If it entails running at your pace, then I won't be able to hang. LOL!

Of course you know you also have a free place to stay if you need it too!
