Less than 2 weeks to go. I tell you this - I'm going to get my butt handed to me based on last year's times for my age group in the Oly.

Who's in to watch me get whomped? (I'll expect you all to stick around and cheer me through the finisher's chute.)

(I'm trying to talk AJ into it - she's going to be in town anyway. She knows she wants to race....

I dunno.  I may do the sprint if I don't kill myself this weekend.  We shall see.  I am REALLY starting to question the wisdom of doing the Olympic distance for my first triathlon in over 2 years.  I just don't want it to be a really bad experience.

I'll be doing the olympic... I forgot where I'm staying

I'd say I want to hang out afterwards, but I'll be living in Peoria at that time... 5 hour drive after the race for me. I get a sick feeling just thinking about it.

We've got a cabin right on the edge of the park. I'm splitting it with my folks. Woo hoo! No fighting for parking. No camping out in a thunderstorm. No dragging cold, wet, tired children out of bed at the crack of dawn.

(Can you see that I learned a lesson last year?)

Anyway, the place we camped was cheap and relatively convenient and nice and quiet, if anyone needs to camp. It was Hickory Oaks, but it looks like their site is kaput.

Hi-I'm new. What about the water at Oshkosh? Wet suit or no, how big is the wave action. I'm already signed up-can't back out now!

1stTimeTri - 2008-07-29 11:13 AM I'll discuss this with wifey tonight.  My eldest has shown an interest in doing a kid's tri, and we'll be back from vacation.

Checked the date again and checked the itenerary, then noted that we will be returning on that Sun., so won't be back in Madison until afternoon/early evening.  Sorry.

BUT - HERE'S AN EARLY EEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW to those racing!  GOOD LUCK, DONKS and DONKETTES!

Deanna - you'll do great since the Donkey flag will be flying proud by your son!

Hey all - I'm in.

My first Oly too! And Deanna - I checked it out and you are right! I thought the swim was shorter...I'm a bit panicky now! YIKES!

I'm wearing a wetsuit - although at this rate, I'll still be in T1 when y'all are getting back from the bike. I can't get the dang thing off without rolling over like a weeble.

...think the water is warm from what someone told me that has been swimming out there... like 73-74 degrees-ish.

Lets hope we don't get another storm the night before (lost power last year, no alarm - overslept, and wound up flying down the highway and getting into set up with only 5 mins to spare!)

The waves were a bit congested last year, at least for the sprint. The one drawback of the race is that they really need a novice division. The water is shallow and a lot of the beginners walked the whole swim.

The oly waves seemed better, which is one of the reasons I decided to do the oly this year.
