Before the race, I will wear my shirt from the Steelhead race as Jeremy is the only other person I know of that would have one and you all aready know him. It is white with a blue stripe in each sleeve.

Good luck everybody.

Indeed it is! I'm thinking going with the blue might be best - I don't have all those crazy colors that you do! I have a blue bike jersey that do more running than biking in.

I swam in the lake the other day with a group of guys who do some training at Lake Manawa every Sunday morning. After the swimming and biking was all done, you could still smell a faint odor of the lake water on your skin and trisuit when I got home. Not that it smelled fishy as you would expect, but very much like motor oil. We need some more lakes where we can OWS.

No kidding. We were out at Lake Zorinsky last weekend with the kayak polo bunch and the lake is looking much nicer than it has in recent years. I asked my friends if there was any swimming in it and apparently Omaha is not too keen on taking on the liability of having actual swimmers in their park lakes. I also heard liability issues are also a big reason Omaha doesn't have it's own triathlon. The closest place for my husband and I to go open water swimming is in Louisville!

Oh, and does anybody know anything about the Black Squirrel bike course this year? As of yesterday, there was still nothing posted on the web.

I got my registration sent in last week. I'll be easy to spot, I'll be the undertrained guy following the stud Jeremy around. Shouldn't be too hard to spot me. Just hope I can swim straight this year, no comments from the peanut gallery please.

Just glad to see you are alive, and haven't forgotten about Tri's.

Thanks for the memories Bryan, I was just trying to get more bang for my buck. I figured swimming an extra 200+ yards would be better. Cheated myself by not doing an extra lap around the lake on the bike and not putting in an extra couple of miles on the run.

Hey I'm not baggin' on ya, you paid forty bucks for the opportunity to do an OWS - you might as well get your money's worth! Hopefully you can just grab onto Jeremy's right ankle and hold him back, keeping you on the right path and giving me more of a head start

I think I'll have my wife let the air out of both of his tires while he is out swimming. Then after that, I'll have her steal his running shoes while he is out on the bike. Any other suggestions?

If she could have some water ready for us around mile 4.5 or so that would be fantastic! I'd have my wife do it but she'll be out running as well.

Sad part of it is, even if Jeremy had to run in his bike shoes he'd still kick my butt!

So the bike route is posted on the website now. It's a little different from last year. Not necessarily better, but different.

yeah, i just picked up my packet and I was just noticing that it isn't much better than last year. basically you finish the lap around tha lake on the way back, or so it appears. Still quite a bit of two way traffic on a narrow path.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow and most importanly, be safe.

Looks like it goes past the park that we turned around at last year [the A on "Valley View Drive" on the map] and goes all the way to IWCC campus. This will make the course longer and allow for some safer passing near the turn-around. I don't think it will help much having the lake loop at the end - I figure the faster cyclists will be catching the faster swimmers/slower cyclists in the first part of the bike loop.

At any rate, it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out and I'm looking forward to racing and seeing everybody there!

Well, once again our team got shafted because Black Squirrel doesn't divide out male, female and coed teams for prizes. It looks like if they had, team BABES TWO may have been the first place female team. (hard to be completely sure since some names could be used for guys or girls) They did annouce that they are going to try to change the bike course for next year because "somebody could get hurt". You'll have to ask Bripod about that one...hopefully he can post some photos from yesterday!

Sorry to see this.   I was afraid of something like this and was the main reason I passed on this Tri, as much as I would like to support local races I will not do Black Squirrel until the bike is improved.

How did this happen? was it on the narrow bike path?
