I decline to weigh in this week.

I'm fairly sure my scale is lying to me - and I haven't been feeling too great this last week.

If I write down the numbers it is telling me, I will be too sad.

I'm back in, in September. After my first Oly on the 7th. And the taper eating that will l be doing before it.

And the requisite celebratory eating that will accompany it. Unless, I drown. And then we can chalk it up to the extra water on board and the fact that I will likely drown my sorrows as well.

No really. I do have a good attitude about the race and my weight. Just not today.

saling4 - 2008-08-27 11:24 PM Chris,  Log something and I will make suggestions.  The water will balance out once your body gets used to it.  At the beginning the water will bloat you some and then it will become normal.  Diet should be something like 55% carb - 25% protein - 20% fats.  Someplace in that ballpark.

Hey Saling,

I have logged my meals from yesterday. This is pretty typical of what I eat most days. I will continue to log my meals so that you have a better view of what I am taking in. I was supprized I thought that I was taking in more than 2000 calories but I was only at about 1800 yesterday.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

i wanted to post and say i'm not really sure if i'll join you next month or not for more Team Skinny.   don't get me wrong, everyone has been great and it has helped keep me on task by knowing i had to report here every week.  i started out at 190'ish in July and this week i weighed in at 183, my lowest weight in nearly 15 years!!   Team Skinny has helped me get there.

my issue is that i don't want to have to worry about my weight loss or lack of for the next month or so.   i'm gonna be starting up some weight training next weeks and i'm hoping to slim down more and replace more of this fat with some muscle.   i suspect i'll gain a couple pounds or so by adding muscle.  by doing that, i don't want to feel strapped to the scale and lose focus.

so i may give Team Skinny a rest for September and come back in October or November.   thanks again everyone!!

can't wait to show some before and after photos when i get a bit buffer

There have been many to take a hiatus, and come back (me included) ... I think you should do what you think is best, and know that Team Skinny is here to stay. When you're ready we'll be here to help continue the wonderful progress you've already made. And being part of Team Skinny doesn't mean you have to weigh-in... We are a close knit community that inspires others too. And to quote our fearless leader, weightloss isn't alsways about the number on the scale... You could always skip that part of your day and concentrate on your training. But either way, hope to hear from you again.

Update: Start the drywall/concrete board phase of the remodel tomorrow (early, very early). Might even get some taping and mudding done... But also on the agenda, have to go get school books... I wonder if I could log "schlepping heavy books around" in my daily log???

xmann,  You are welcome to come and go each month,  but weight training does not exclude weight loss.  A common belief (wrong by the way) is that you can't build muscle and loss weight.

I think I have lost all of my motivation for everything. I haven't been training in a while (although in part due to some knee pain I've been having) and I've been eating mostly crap. Although I guess everything isn't bad since I've been pretty much even all month. This week's weigh in was 215.5 which I think might be what I started out at.

I'm just worried, I've hit a wall and the motiviation I had at the beginning of the year was just a fluke. I'm supposed to have 2 races in September (5K and duathlon) but I don't know if I'm going to be ready or not.

Ditto that. In fact, building muscle is one of the ways I finally lost weight.

(Note to self...work some weight training back into the schedule on the off-season.

Whoo whoo - 1.5 weeks until the "off season" - I'm ready!)

Tricupcake,  Sorry you are feeling down and out,  but in the words of a great wordsmith (You might recognize this):

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. - Mark Twain

Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and see who is going to win: The old you or the you you want to be.  Its your choice and we all have to make it EVERY F@#^ing day.  So who do you want to be today?

You know it is amazing how much your body changes when you change your routine. For the last couple of weeks I have been eating (what I call) really well and healthy. I usually pack my lunch or go to the house for lunch, and I usually eat maybe half of a sandwich and some yogurt, or maybe some meat and cheese roll ups with some cottege cheese.

Yesterday, I forgot to pack my lunch and didn't have the time to go home and eat. So, I did what I used to do I went to Buger King and got a Whopper and medium fries. Let me tell you my body didn't like it one bit. I felt like crap the rest of the day, didn't sleep well last night and felt terrible this morning. Needless to say I am staying away from "Fast Food" from now on.

Peace,

Chris

Why does every one "wait" for off season?  I have never understood this in our situation.  We don't get paid for Triing so I assume we do it for our health.  One of the best things you can do for weight loss and future health (future health is old guy speak for my age group) is weight train.  Even if it is body weight training (simplefit, P90 stuff, etc).  I love body weight training,  burns cals, defines the body and can improve endurance if done right.  I refuse too get old from rusting out and so should you.  Weight training (not bodybuilding) helps muscle, bone (ladies are you listening) and helps protect your joints and tendons.  Come on gang lets look at the WHOLE picture.

Oops,  It appears I am in one of my "moods".  Damn it people, don't wait til you hit 49 and look in the mirror and ask "Who is this 5'7" 200 lbs piece of gelatinous blob looking at me?".  I couldn't walk up a set of stairs without thinking "Where is the elevator?" Oh yeah this is only a 2 story house.  I want to be here 5 years from now and hear how your friends can't walk from the car without a walker and you are running/biking /swimming.  I want you to be the envy of all those people at your class reunion.

Oops, did it again.  I will crawl back into my hole.

It happens to the best of us Chris.  May fast food rest in peace most of the time.  I used to drink 6-12 pepsi's a day and now if I crave one it gets thrown away.  Cold water quenches thirst better and it is "empty" calories.  I can not believe that I think like that now.

I couldn't agree more. I know that I am new to this type of training (endurance) but not to exercise and weight training. When I was playing football all that the coaches harped on was size bigger is better. Well not always. You could have a 6'4" 250lb linemen who is solid muscle but if he doesn't have the endurance, or stamena to keep all of that weight going what is the point.

No matter what you do, in my oppinion you have to ballance everything out. You have to have some kind of strenghth training a long with your endurance training.

Here is what my routine looks like:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday (no weights just body weight or resistance band): Curls, Tricep Press, Side Laterals, Push ups, Crunches, Calf Raises, Squats. Most of these I do 5 sets of 10 to 15 reps.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: Walk/Run according to the Couch to 5k program. Eventually I will work in Biking (when I get a bike), and Swimming (when I find a place to swim).

Just my thoughts on the subject. Good luck to everyone and keep up the great work!!

Peace,

Chris

Chris,  Go to a garage sale and get a bike.  Just make sure it fits.  A $25-35 road tank will go a long way in your training without busting the bank.  Then when you get on that sexy new road/Tri bike you will be flying.  I can't personally validate that last sentence since I still ride a 1990 Schwinn hybrid.

I'll have to see what I can find this weekend. I think Putnam County, Florida is one of the nations capitals for Garage sales. How do I make sure it fits?

Thanks,

Meh.

Off-season because I have x hours a day to train, and if I don't use those x hours for swimming/biking/running, I will suffer the consequences come race day. (For me, the biggest fear is that I will drown. )

However, I "strength train" while SBR - I ride & run hills & sprints, I go to spin class and grind the gears, etc.

Come "off-season", I don't worry so much about drowning (because I am only training for run-races), so if I spend some of my x hours lifting weights, I will be OK.

So there. Yes, Saling - you are in a mood. But we still love you. Now crawl back in your hole.

It can be complicated, but I am 5'7" and would ride a 54cm road bike.  That is the measurement of the top bar center of steering post to center of seat post.   Seat height should be:  Your down leg (pedal at the bottom) is slightly bent with no shoes and putting your heel on the pedal (don't want the seat post TOO high).  Some bike shops do a quicky by setting seat height and then sitting with your hands on the top bar,  If the bar blocks the front hub you are dang close.

I'm 5'8", 5'9" depends on who you ask. So I would probably be on the same size bike you are correct?
