Along the line of Pam's post in another thread: stumfossil - 2008-08-26 4:14 PM CT BT is pretty lame these days… I made a lot of friends through posting, inspiring, group training (a lot of which I set up), gatherings at races (a lot of which I set up), races themselves, ... I have my thoughts on why things changed but I'll keep them to myself. I'll just say that it's too bad as it really was a lot of fun around these parts. |

okay — let me just clarify a few things here BT was a catalyst for me in that I made a few really good friends as a result of stumbling upon this site 2-3 years ago. Those new friendships would hopefully survive with or without the BT touch point. Forever grateful to have been connected with certain peeps I now call my friends. Outside of that, this is a great place to log my workouts and document my races and share both with my friends. The rest is bunk… I love you CT BT peeps! |

Pro 4528 Norwalk, Connecticut | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! in line with the other thread i will interject my .02 here. As a newbie, no one knows me, i try to be friendly and make acuaintances, I do this to be polite and friendly. I also actually like getting to know new people and making new friends. This is a new sport to me, i have played other competitive sports, but alas they were all before the internet really got cookin' (shows my age). I am always down for meeting up and working out, as i find myself riding and running and swimming alone alot, it gets boring. I would hope when i do my first Tri in Sept, that i would meet some fellow BT'ers. If it pans out great, if not, i will still compete, that is my nature, i do not do things half a$$ed as it has never been my style. I as well as many people have had my fair share of friends whose phone works one way, incoming only, i am not tolerant and no longer call, i am too old to worry about not getting a call back from a so called friend. any one ever wants to get together for a ride or swim, or meet at a race PM me, i'll get back to you, thats my style. I have posted about races i want to do or am thinking about, but as you guys seem to agree, you don't get alot of feedback here sometimes, i thought it was cause i was a newbie. For the record, my name is Rudy, i am a clyde, fell free to contact me if you want. |

Just a joke, taken from an old No Fear gear saying, i had it on a sticker that was on my race car when i road raced cars mant years ago. I did not get married till late last year, my one year anny is coming up in October. I have a great wife, she lets me get away with murder. Took me 38 years to find her, and went through alot of others to get to her, i am sure you have the same issue. |

Or maybe that's just my family? Edited by PollyC 2008-08-29 6:39 AM |

Expert 842 | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! That's just what Mom's say to your face so she doesn't hurt you feelings. As to BT, I personally think the only big change is the "know it alls" on the main board. I think the same questions are being asked, I think the tone is pretty similar, but now that it is so much bigger and people have been here for awhile, they think they know everything. Now that I think about it, this really hasn't changed either. I remember fighting against the "How do I run faster" posts and all the brainiacs posting to do 400m repeats. Meanwhile, the person was only running 8 miles a week and couldn't figure out why they were slow. I think as a group we have changed more than BT itself. I have been thinking about looking for a new place to post my workouts. But in the end, I would really miss reading other peoples workouts, getting and giving inspires and reading race reports (my favorite part). So, I am going to stick around and maybe we can livin things up again. Mark |

I belong to other forums for other things, (i collect golf putters for one, muscle cars) you get the know it all's anywhere you go, i have learned to avoid them to the best of my ability and not read the threads. Being a newbie here, i ask questions and try to make aquaintences, some are probably redundant, but i do use the search to avoid those. keep one thing in mind Everyone is a friggin' expert, just ask them!! rudy |

New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! I have been posting my little fingers off over the last few months. I have found the CT BT forum very helpful. For example, KSB recommend the Winding Trail Series, which was great. I met rbrigz there as well as others. I dont think CT BT is lame, this community has been a real help to me. I am always happy to join anyone on a run, bike, swim, etc you just have to be slow. if anyone wants to ride roller coasters and eat corn dogs LC, i'm your man. |

Regular 82 Madison, CT | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! I'm glad someone brought this up. I moved out here from CO in March where the BT group is very close. The BT site is a place to not only log your workouts but also a place to inspire and mentor each other. I still keep in contact with all my friends in CO on BT. I can only blame myself for not connecting with new people here in CT on BT but it seems like there just isn't the same vibe here. There are very few posts and not much activity. Since I moved here I have mainly been training for my marathon and not cycling or swimming much. I am doing the Madison Tri on the 6th though if anyone will be out there. I plan to get back heavy into the Tri scene next year and am hoping that I will be able to start connecting with more people on BT. I believe this site is a great place to meet fellow triathletes and make new friends. No matter how many years or races we do there is always something new to learn. There's no room for know-it-alls on BT. They can go hang out on Slowtwitch. |

Regular 82 Madison, CT | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! Aaron, I'll give you an example. You have the Nutmeg half iron listed as an upcoming race and you are the ONLY person on BT that is doing the race? Isn't that a fairly big race? What does it take to get more people involved? This site has so much to offer if more people get involved. I've seen it first hand in CO. It's hard sometimes for people to get together to train due to work, family and location but even getting to know people through the site and helping each other to become better athletes is really what's its all about. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned veteran there's always something to learn. |

Pro 3903 Andover | Subject: RE: I used to LOVE this place! Hey Ken, Thanks for adding to the thread. BT CT used to be a very active place a couple/few years ago. There was a lot of activity in the forum and we had a lot of group training/gatherings at races going on. Over the past couple years things have slowed down--IMHO: some of that was due to "personality conflicts," as lame as that sounds, and I'd say some was due to a few of us training for/racing IMLP. As far as no group gatherings at races this year, I'd again say some of that has to do with IM commitments this year. Several of "the gang" did LP and some are training for FL and AZ. As a result, some are recovering, some have other "race specific" training races on the cal, and others are just starting up and not ready to commit to a race. As you can tell, we've started to pick things up around here over the last couple days. Honestly, it was a lot more fun around these parts a couple years back. Hopefully we can get that spirit kickin' in CT again! Rob |
