Total Time = 1h 08m 23s
Overall Rank = 1/80
Age Group = Female under 40
Age Group Rank = 1/17
Pre-race routine:

Drove down with my hubby who was doing his first tri.
Event warmup:

Got set up on our wooden racks. I knew a lot of people doing this small race so I just chatted and stretched a bit. Checked the pool temp- a lot warmer than last year.
Swim
  • 07m 40s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good, relaxed swim for me. I got passed by the swimmer behind and I passed the guy in front. I was #9 to start so the pool was not crowded. It did feel kind of wierd having everyone standing on the pool deck watching as we swam.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder. I suddenly realized I had only 100 left to go before I started to swim hard. But this was a decent swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Did a great job of everything except droppping my Garmin and having to back track to pick it up. I left my shoes ont he bike again, no problems there.
Bike
  • 38m 45s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 22.45 mile/hr
Comments:

There were a lot of turns, 4 U-turns altogether and some of the road by the runway was really rough but all in all a decent course, lots of opportunities to see the other riders. It was so cool to see my hubby out there.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

I caught up with my training buddy in T2, I had tried all bike to catch her. We left T2 together and said "lets beat the boys".
Run
  • 20m 11s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a good run for me. I had planned to just go as hard as I could. I maybe should have started out a bit faster as I had some left at the end. I was on my own for the run, so I just went by RPE and focused on good form.
Post race
Warm down:

I grabbed my camera and started taking pictures of my friends finishing. I ran out and saw that my hubby had passed 2 more guys on the run and was in first place. I was soooo happy for him. He runs really well and knew his time would be close to mine. I got lots of great pics. I couldnt believe I came in first o/all, it was kind of cool to beat the boys but I know that it wont be long until JT is faster than me, he's only been training for less than 3 months!
The awards were awesome- we got these huge cups. I'll post some pics. My friends came in 2nd and 3rd female and another friend took 1st overall male over 40. It was a good day!

Event comments:

Super fun local race. With Nathans tomorrow, the competition was probably less but I was still able to push myself and put up some decent times. Everything lately has been long in preparation for Soma so it was fun to make it hurt a bit and know that it would be over with in an hour :) I love sprints!

Wow.  Wow.  Wow.  1st overall!! You are living proof that you reap what you sow.  You've been having an unbelievable training year and this is a very much-deserved award!

Congratulations on First Overall!!

Don't sell yourself short on SOMA, I think you're going to do better than you expect... can't wait to read that race report.  And I expect it to be longer and more detailed than this one.  Congrats again Sally!  Simply amazing job.  And congrats to your hubby for having an unbelievable first tri.

All I can say is WOW!  You must have just looked like a big blur the whole time.  Way to beat all the boys too and finish first OA.  Double wow!!  Congrats to your hubby too and all of your speedy friends.  Very impressive!

P.S.  This is why I race the long stuff.  I could never go that fast!!!

WOW! You and your husband did very well. You will need to build a shelf for all of the hardware you are collecting. You showed those AF wingnuts how it is done. I totally forgot about this race. Just too busy.

You & JT ROCK
