With the price of ultra-distance triathlons increasing every year, the Great Floridian Triathlon thought it was time to give triathletes a break and roll the entry fee back to the entry fees charged more than decade ago. Starting Saturday, October 25, thru November 5, 2008, athletes can enter next year’s Great Floridian Triathlon XVIIII for the unbelievable low individual entry fee of $199! That is less than half the entry fee charged for branded ultra distance triathlons and $100 less than the normal early entry fee for the Great Floridian Triathlon. The 2009 Great Floridian Triathlon is scheduled for October 24, 2009, at the World Triathlon Destination, Clermont, Florida.
Now in its nineteenth year, the Great Floridian’s reputation as a fiercely competitive, challenging, and quality race keeps athletes from all over the world coming back year after year. The Great Floridian, with its 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run, has long been considered the “peoples” race and is the largest independent
(non WTC Ironman Licensed
) ultra-distance race in North America.
“In recent years the tremendous growth of Ironman branded triathlons across the U.S. has resulted in a drop in participation in the independent ultra-distance triathlons” according to Race Director, Fred Sommer. “As a result, entry fees for branded ultra-distance triathlons have sky rocketed due to demand and increased costs and licensing fees. As an independent home town event, we are able to offer athletes a more personalized race experience without many of the inconveniences associated with a larger, more commercialized event. We hope the Great Floridian Economic Stimulus Program will encourage athletes to experience the Great Floridian Triathlon and at the same time give them a financial break during our current economic conditions.”
