Hi all!
Is the Timberman run hilly? I looked on mapmyrun and it looked relatively flat.. but I don't want to be surprised come race weekend.

Thanks!

I run it 4X a week, as I live right next to the run course, and I think it's pretty flat. There's one short, steep hill, and a long gradual uphill, but most of it's pretty flat. Lots of shade too, on the lake....we're getting fired up for it!!!!!

Keith.....how would you compare it to the Mooseman run? I did the run portion of Moosey as a relay...........

BTW, you put on an AWESOME race! I felt like a rock star coming across that finished line!!

I may likely be giving up my Sunday night BBQ ticket if anyone needs one. Looks like they have plenty of food post race (pizza and beer, all I need). Dont think I can afford (time wise) to hang around past 6pm for the BBQ.

I did read that right, correct?
11:00 AM: Post-race LITTLE CAESAR’S PIZZA BUFFET, FRATELLO’S RISTORANTE ITALIANO,
BEANS AND GREENS, JORDAN’S ICE CREAM, STONYFIELD YOGURT, FOOD FROM
HANNAFORD, & COORS LIGHT beer, plus TimberConcert featuring Phil N’ the Blanks

Although, food will likely be gone by the time I finish (aiming for sub 7 hours).

I'd say the Mooseman and Timberman runs are comparable, as both have long, flat stretches. Mooseman may be a bit tougher, as the return leg has a longer gradual climb at Moose.

The short, steep hill on the Mooseman course is very similar in length and grade as Timberman

Definitely stay at Gunstock, they have TONS of camping. It's also where packet pickup, expo, dinners, etc are. You can also just hop on the bus race morning to get to the race site.

Now that RI 70.3 is in the books is now time to focus on Tman 100%, let the countdown begin

I am planning to head up there in a few weeks; if anyone is up for a swim/bike/run let me know.

I think they are very different.  I have not ridden LP, but it has more climbs and more downhills.  Timberman has its biggest climb at the beginning.  From my ride this weekend here was my take:

I found the climb up 107 before the turn onto Leavitt the hardest - it is fairly long.  After that it is rollers until you turn onto 106.  106 if flat, but there are substantial sections of false flat in both directions.  I went at the wrong time of day and had cross wind and then headwind/crosswind so it was tough.  Now I was not racing so there were only occasional other folks out riding, so I found that the middle section because it is flat and you are working it also gets easy to space out and be bored - I would look down and see my watts and speed ridiculously low and have to push myself to wake up and pedal!!!

After the out and back on 106, there is climbing on Leavitt, but not bad and then a great downhill on 107.  You still have some climbing on 11 after that which is mitigated by the fact that you are almost back to tranisition.

That's a good assessment.  I rode the course yesterday in the heat but found the wind to be refreshing because it counteracted the sun a bit-90 degrees at one point.

The road construction on 106 was the most annoying part for me as my tires were littered with tar and tiny rocks.  I had to stop a few times to wipe them down.  Also, there wasn't much room to ride in that section.

Old Marsh Hill Road forced me out of the big ring at the halfway point-it certainly was humbling.  Ditto about the boredom on 106-I had another rider catch up with me and he said he was surprised I slowed.  I told him I didn't even notice and thanked him for "waking me up".

Nice, challenging course though.  Not easy but not too hard.

Thanks for all the great information that has been posted so far on this thread.  My husband and I are both doing Timberman.  It is our psuedo-first HIM.  Last year we competed in the Greater Cleveland Triathlon HIM in August, but much to our chagrin they had to cancel the swim part because Lake Erie had huge waves that day.  So we ran 1.2 miles at the start rather than swam 1.2 miles.

We are both runners, and I also swam in college (small D3 school).  We have come to biking only for the last three years or so.  We are lucky to have a great group of riders that we ride regularly with.  They are pretty good riders who have done many years of racing both road and mountain bike.  So trying to keep up with them has made us pretty good, fairly fast.

I had a setback about 10 days ago, when I crashed the bike on one of our group rides.  Concussion, stitches, ambulance ride and all.  Missed a full six days of workouts, but have been back at it gingerly for the last few days and on my 5 mile run this morning I finally feel like I am pretty much BACK.

Can't believe we are 3 1/2 weeks out from Tman.  We are coming up on Wednesday with all the kids in tow.  My 18 yo son and 15 yo daughter also compete in triathlons, daughter in Sprint and son in OLY distance.  So they are pretty excited to get to see the whole BIG production.

My biggest fears are the crowds of competitors during the race.  My only experience has been at some more low key (a few hundred participants) races.

Any comments on how that comes into things during the race???
