Kiawah Island, South Carolina
United States
50F / 10C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 31m 35s
Overall Rank = 53/2275
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/female
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:15am, jumped in shower and then had breakfast with Scott, Wes, Kelly, Terry and Amber. I drank two cups of coffe and had a bagel with grape jelly and half of a Clif Bar. Scott's been wanting a new grill for Christmas so I got online and ordered that online before we left for the start line.
Event warmup:

Walked to the start line and found some friends from Wilmington and chatted. I should have warmed up but didn't.
Run
  • 1h 31m 35s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 03m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I came in 5th overall female and 2nd in my age group.

I started out fast but I felt really good. My first six miles I felt really strong. Mile 6-9 was a bit of struggle but I just kept looking ahead and kept telling myself to keep going.

At mile 10 I told myself to forget about the 10 miles I just ran and pretend I was running a 5 km. Mile 12-13 was hard but I felt stronger on the last mile.

I am EXTREMELY please with my race today. I PR'd by 3 and half minutes! For me...that's huge. My next goal is run under a 1:30 half!!
What would you do differently?:

Slow down at the beginning...
Post race
Warm down:

I cooled down with my friend Andrea. We ran 4 additional miles out on the course to cheer on Scott and our friends who were doing the FULL marathon!

Event comments:

Yet again this was a great race. We have a blast every year we come!
