Does anyone on these forums train/race full time?

i.e. Do you live solely off money from sponsors/races or other income sources so you can train full time? Or maybe you work part time just to live and train pretty much full time?

Thanks.

Well, combination of JEOPARDY! wins in October and layoff in September make it a possibility, I suppose, at least for awhile...but it really isn't what I want to be doing.

I've been trying to decide if I'm a student who does endurance races, or an endurance racer who happens to be a student :p

I'm self-employed and can schedule work around training.

Me too. That being said I usually spend 2x as much time training than I do working...

Yet another way I need to be more like trixie!

Self employed here, too, but dragging myself back on the training wagon.  Not sure I'll ever be quick enough to warrant a sponsorship.  (Which kind of confuses me - wouldn't you want to sponsor someone that spends the **most** time out on the race course, so your company logo can be seen more? )

soon - if my body will take it :-) , my little boy is off to school full-time Feb and we've been having the 'will I return to work?' conversations.  Hubby says "why don't you just concentrate on your tri training?"  God, I love that man.

I've done it before.  I lived on consulting income and cut my personal overheads way back (on the order of a 95% reduction when I left private equity in 2000).

Other folks cycle their training -- alternating part/full work with full/part train -- that can be a very effective strategy for a new athlete.
