Subject: Independence Day 5K run...... That is Afghanistan independence day...end we ran a 5k with about 40 ANA (Afghan National Army ) on their camp today. I have not run outdoors for 3-4 months, so to say it was a GREAT feeling would be an understatement. Mid 50's, light breeze, lots of mud, potholes, rocks, one nicely twisted right ankle and two shoes full of mud later, I finished...in 21:42.Not bad for not being able to breathe the air...we're at 5600-5800 feet here and I've been doing treadmill running. Toughest 5K I've ever run. I cannot say how much I miss running/biking/swimming outdoors.
Warm weather is approaching here...
good thing: able to run outdoors (somewhat )
bad thing: with warm weather come more attacks...Taliban come out of hiding for the winter.
Either way, the ANA were happy, independence from Russian occupation, and so were all 8 of us Americans who ran with them. Now if only I could find a pool out here....
