Subject: RE: IM nutrition in the "old days" Funny--the first time I talked with Wendy Ingraham, I asked her the same thing ... she laughed and said, "Well, I'd have like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the turnaround ... [maybe she was talking about a bike turnaround? not sure] and another one before the run." If you read the interviews with some of the guys who did the very first Ironman, they ate whatever their support crew gave them or what they could pick up at a mart or fast-food ... oranges, bananas, Coke, chocolate, sandwiches ... two guys stopped at a McDonald's and one of them had a whole meal ... Moving on to the 1980s, this is a pretty funny article by Dave Scott, with some good contemporary tips. http://ironman.active.com/page/Nutritional_Fueling_for_an_Ironman.htm |
