tri-Cajuns Club

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 08m 25s
Overall Rank = 15/55
Age Group = M 50-54
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4, coffee and bagels, shower, shave, dress, 40-minute drive.

Club race, so I got there at 5:45 to help set up racks and transition area.

Rained all day yesterday and all night, no rain in the morning even though there was an 80% chance.
Event warmup:

I did about a five-minute run through the gardens to warm-up and refamiliarize myself with the route
Run
  • 15m 28s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Started at the back of the pack, kind of got boxed in a little but managed to hit stride in the first 500 feet. Felt a little sluggish, but I guess it was a decent pace. Passed a couple guys on the hill but couldn't catch Dylan.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Decent enough. Passed Dylan at the rack while he was putting on his shoes. Rode on top of shoes up a small hill, got into the shoes in between the speed bumps on the way out.
Bike
  • 35m 31s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent breeze against us while going out, averaged somewhere around 19.5 going out and closer to 21 coming back. Never got passed while passing about a dozen or so, probably a testament to my crappy run. Passed one of my "rivals" from the age group above mine on the bike without knowing it, probably right before we got back.

I passed 19 people on the bike, more than a third of the field. Probably due more to a slow run than a great bike split.
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s
Comments:

Pretty quick, short run with bike, took of helmet, put on shoes and gone. Hit the "stop" button on the Garmin instead of the "lap" button.
Run
  • 15m 36s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Got out of transition a little ahead of said 'rival" but couldn't get my legs under me, letting him get about a 20-yard lead on me. Stayed like that the whoe way, if I would speed up, so would he. Turned out he was trying to catch his "rival," aomeone actually in his AG.

31st overall on the first run, 16th on the second. Lot of folks forgot we had to run twice.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood around and drank gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, especially lack of time on the bike, and big belly.

Event comments:

Age groups were small as overall attendance was light. Angel got 2 in her AG (out of 2), Dylan got 1st (out of 1), and I got 1st (out of 2).

Everything went well despite the threatening weather, roads were fairly dry with some wet/muddy spots. Have to say we did a good job today!

Great venue, not going to find any more interesting run courses than what we have here. Crowds were small due to the weather, but the ones that showed seemed to have a good time and certainly ate well after.

AHR 151
Course: First run goes out to the entrance of the facility, turnaraound, then a left at the gate. Follows the road up a pretty significant hill to the Jefferson House, then through the gardens on pea-gravel paths for the last half mile. Per Garmin, 240 feet climbing on this two-mile segment. It's not the friggin' Alps, but more than you'd espect in south Louisiana.
