I spoke with a Garmin Rep the the ING Georgia Marathon Expo last Sat. and asked when the 405 is coming out in a Multisport version.  He said 2 months (which we all know certainly could be longer).  He said, waterproof, 20 hour battery, ability to read and record power data from a power tap, HRM, as well as cadence.  Make the thing whip me up margarita and I'm sold.

It's been well-documented that Garmins often come up with anything from 25-28 miles on a 26.2 mile marathon course.  If you were using its pace for those inaccurate distances you are going to come in WAY off the mark.

I would like to see these documents.  No way is the Garmin 305 off by almost 2 miles.  Every marathon, 1/2 marathon I have done, its been extremely close.  Close enough to the point where not taking tagents could cause any differences.  The farthest descrepency I have seen is about .2 miles at the Vegas Marathon.  Which, BTW, in all message boards is known to be a course that is long.  Even comes out to 26.4 on mapmyrun.

I think Garmin added the foot pod so you could get pacing indoors.  That makes sense.  It is NOT for accuracy.  Instantaneous, accuracy may be spotty but its very similar to the HR lag you see on all HR monitors.  If you are steady and not changing paces quickly, its very reliable.

By well-documented I meant that every time there is a big race there is usually a thread about it (on this forum or others) with everyone comparing how far their Garmin said the race was.   Most folks are usually over a mile off and that is more than just not taking the tangents would do.

Mapmyrun.com doesn't take running the tangent into account.  Las Vegas Marathon is a certified USATF course...it's 26.2 freaking miles if you run the tangents.  As is every other marathon unless the RD REALLY porks it.  I wouldn't believe the message boards on this one.  Same thing happens on tri courses when people say their bike computer had the course long or short.  The bike computer is only as accurate as the person who inputs the tire circumference.

Oh...I hope my failing 301 holds out until then.

The screen has been going kablooey for a year...all striped and stuff.  For about a month I had no screen at ALL though it was recording data.  Now I'm back to striped screen again.  I hope it hangs on for a few more months!

You have a 301??

The 205/305 is significantly better than the 101/201/301 with regards to GPS accuracy (instantaneous pace & distance.
