I've got a lot of guys that are really good friends.  The ONLY room I share is with the wife, period.  LIke was posted earlier, everyone needs privacy.

I'm going 2 rooms on this one...as a light sleeper who has a hard time sleeping anyway, one night with a snorer or someone who stays up late or is otherwise a nuisance would put me off for the whole trip.

I would think you guys would be fine sharing a room...just think of all that money you will save...yes, having your own room is nice, but like a couple other people mentioned, how much time are you even going to be in there?

You could have it like I did the first time I went to NYC...I had to share a room with my boss (also a woman) but it was WEIRD...especially when she dropped her pants right in front of me...granted, she did have a long shirt/jacket on, but still...weird!

Here is a suite with 2 rooms and a kitchen for $319 / night.  Put the junior guy on the fold-out in the 'living room'

Since you already took option one, I'm a little late.

I've only shared rooms twice on business trips. Once was with my close friend from college, and lets just say that prior to this business trip, we'd gone as fare as sharing a bed on ski trips and ended up cuddling (according the the guy on the floor. I think he is full of crap). The second time was also with a close friend who I happened to work with and we were stuck in O'hare because of snow. It was share a room or sleep in the terminal.

Oops. I forgot I also shared a suite with a co-worker on another trip. Even that sucked. I like my privacy.

2 rooms - anything else really shouldn't be an option (especially since you are an owner.)

I'm all about having my own space at the end of the day.  The last thing I want to do after working all day or "being on" with clients is to have to fake it some more because I am sharing a room with someone.  The one, and only time, I did definitely made me never want to do it again.

I guess I'm just a grumpy SOB in a very client centric business so decompressing at the end of the day is a necessity.

ChineseDemocracy - 2009-04-14 6:47 PM I'm not downing anybody who has spoken out against sharing a room...I'm just wondering, why? Have folks here had bad experiences sharing a hotel room with co-workers? I'm trying to come up with negatives, and I'm having a difficult time doing so.

We had a 8 day long trade show, with a week of time for setting up beforehand, where most of our employees doubled up.  One pair after almost 2 weeks of living together, got into a knockdown, furniture busting brawl.  That was the end of the doubling up for several years....

If both of you get along and don't care, share the room.  It's just work, it's just a hotel room and it's just a week.  No biggie.

Just make sure you get full "credit" for your "sacrifice".  IE ask the boss for permission to get a very good steak dinner to make up for the inconvenience.  Even if he turns you down, you'll let him know what you did.

Now if you want bad, my Wife worked for a School system that had teachers on trips share beds (ie 4 to a double room).

You're the co-owner and thus the boss?  That makes a HUGE difference!  Under no circumstances would I want to share with the boss, unless we were really truly best friends and I was helping him/her out.

You could ask the others to share a room, but you need your own room.

Your junior people need the time away from you to be normal and on their own.    Definitely two rooms and bill the client.

In response to Chinese Democracy's question about why not share, the above post is the biggest reason for me to have my own room. After spending 8+ hours a day with people that I have to be "on" for I need time to be in my own head (which usually involves laying on the bed in my underwear and reading), and not be putting up my professional front. Something I can't do if I'm sharing a room. It's especially hard when you spend all day selling then have to go out to dinner with people. You really, really need the down time of your own room. Even when I travel with my college buddy who happens to be one of my closest friends, and happens to be my boss, I need that time away from him. I have no problem sharing a room with him and 2 other guys when we go on ski or mountain bike trips, but I'm not putting up a front all day like I am when we are at trade shows or conferences.
