As of this morning, the water temp is 65 degrees...  a bit on the warm side....

Did you take the temp yourself or is there a website that has the temps? I swam in lake mary 3 weeks ago and I'm really wondering what the temp was at the time, I've got no perception of how much warmer it is now than the beginning of the month.

Corrention  63 degress, wind did not help;  Went to the lake this morning, was thinking about a swim but after Barn Burner the day before I was done...  I actually missed type the temp this morning when I posted,

I will be heading up north nextweek for a pre-ride/swim with some other friends...  hoping it will warm up alittle.

Are there any other lakes around Flagstaff that are good for OWS practice? I don't mind Lake Mary, but I'm wary of the boat drivers who are getting drunk and not paying attention to anything around them.

To all of you signed up for Mountain Man triathlon, Good luck getting the hardware promised at the end of your race. The last two years they have ran out of finishers medals and had no food for some of the slower participants. The medals were mailed out both years over 11 months later.

Just an personally observed FYI...

I guess that's a good reason to race faster.  Just looking for a positive spin.

I thought the same thing from one year to the next. I cut 50 minutes off the previous years and still no medal and the bonus this time was my $6000 bike laying on the ground with the handle bars scuffed up from them tearing everything down.

Positive.... is it is a beautiful course and volunteers are great as always.

Negative.... the Director Eddie Carlin!!! Didn't have a response or a concern about these couple of issues.

I have heard the same thing from Half participants. If you are out there pushing 6 hours, the volunteers seem to drift away and aid stations become abandoned and empty. I swore I would never do the Half, but changed my mind. The Olympic is great, never had a problem there.

Everything else is true...EXCEPT THIS! Despite the torrential downpour last year EVERY SINGLE aid station was stocked and had volunteers! I remember calling them angels for being out in that. One had a trash can lid over her head. :p

I didn't give a sh*t about most of this other stuff. The beauty of the course, challenge and overall experience made it all worth it, to me. But I do realize for many these things are unacceptable, and that makes sense.

PS - The take away message - TRAIN and TRAIN HARD for this race. Then you won't have to worry about no medals, finish line take down, etc! :p

When the Race Director was asked in an email if there was cut off times and medals two years ago his response no cut off time and yes everyone gets a medal. I asked this because I knew the hills and elevation were going to beat me up and the website said nothing about it. So with that the idea of racing faster doesn't solve the problem. When coming across the finish line after 8 hours of body punishment there was no refreshments or medals. When the Race Director was asked about the medals his remark was "I think we have some coffee mugs around." Worst part of two years ago was I passed another AG in the last few miles on the run. After talking to him for a few I learned this was his first HIM finish and when he crossed the line a few minutes after me I welcomed him to the family. Eddie Carlin "Race Director" took away part of the experience of being awarded. Sad Stuff!!

The swim goes the other direction this year, with start at the North ramp. The transition area is in the south parking lot. Why? Because they tore up the north parking lot last year and haven't repaved it yet. (County is probably out of money.) I'll check on the conditions at the north ramp sometime next week and will let y'all know if it involved any cross-country trekking experience to get there...

A little lesson for Milty today - the sun rises in the EAST.

Seeing as it is a north-south swim I am thinking No.

I think I'm going to the Friday afternoon packet pick-up....Also, I've heard that there is a lot of construction on Lake Mary Road and that getting to the race site may take some extra time. Anyone able to verify?
