Fitzy - 2009-07-03 10:09 AM I think I'm going to the Friday afternoon packet pick-up....Also, I've heard that there is a lot of construction on Lake Mary Road and that getting to the race site may take some extra time. Anyone able to verify?

Yup, lots of construction going on from I-17 up until lower lake Mary. For a while it was down to a one way single lane and cars in the other direction had to wait for a shuttle vehicle to lead the way, it's back to a two-way now but who knows in a couple weeks. Can't wait until they are done, we will have a safe bike lane out to lake mary instead of the 2 inches we had before!

Honestly... Lake Mary Rd. isn't a very busy road anyway, so at 4am-6am Sunday morning I'm sure they only people using the road will be the racers. I would plan for a very small delay (5 minutes?) if any at all, but Flagstaff being pretty small only has traffic issues in the downtown area, so don't worry too much. I'll keep you updated if anything changes.

See you all there!

I want to go to one of the info sessions since this will be my first HIM and I'm still wondering what to do about water bottles/exchanges etc. There are two scheduled for Saturday afternoon: at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The last two years most people showed up for the first one so it was kinda crowded. I would like to go for the 5 p.m. one. So, maybe packet pick-up at 4:30 and then info session at 5. Does that work for anyone else for the photo?

I'm not planning on any kind of practice swim that day. How about Pita Jungle for a late lunch before packet pick-up, at 2 p.m.? Any takers?

Anyone know what the water temp in Lake Mary is right now?  I have been practicing in Parker Canyon Lake and it has been in the low 70's.

The website says "Average lake temperature for the last 8 years has been exactly 71° F. " I'm not sure how an average lake temperature is exact. But let's hope it's close to 71.

I'll be at packet pickup at 4:30pm. That is, if I'm recovered by then.

Swam at lake mary this weekend. I in my estimate the water was around 75 maybe a few degrees cooler. Really not bad. I was; however, told by another swimmer that the area where the boats launch from (I assume also where the tri starts, since it's a bigger part of the lake) is colder.

Did you wear a wetsuit or not?  If it's that warm, I'm thinking I might go without.

Warm or not, you'll do a LOT better in a 2K swim with that suit.

I'm actually faster without the suit and will be very happy to swim without it.  I've gotten better at the wetsuit swims, but my pace historically is better without it.

Perhaps, but the elevation made me hyperventilate a bit and suits are already tight across my chest.  If you can do it without, you may have an easier time of it - just two pennies from me!

I swam without the wetsuit and was very comfortable. The elevation didn't seem to really bother me. Fitzy you have a swimming background so I assume it will be the same for you.  I doubt you'll need the wetsuit if you say you're typically faster without it anyways.

Good Luck Everyone.

Sure, one at a time, but not all three back to back. (Still only 3 entrants in my AG... just gotta finish!)
