Net flixs and a power meter,, that amuses me for about 2 1/2 hrs..  I'm really impressed how long people can go for.

Does being on Rollars make it any easier??  you would have to pay a little more attention I would think

This past off season did two 4 hour rides and about a 1/2 dozen 3+ hour trainer rides.  Movies saved my sanity. My favorite double feature: The Distance (from Bt's own Scoobysdad) and Mama Mia.

When I was training for my HIM, my wife went away on business and I couldn’t find a babysitter for my son, so I did a 2:45 ride on the trainer one night after he went to sleep. I think I finally finished around midnight. I woudn't want to make a habit of it, but it wasn't terrible.

One of the announcers during the Giro told a story of a coach who made his riders do 6-hour solo trainer rides while facing a brick wall in order to build their focus and mental toughness. I think I would prefer to be waterboarded.

Believe you're thinking of Chuckie V (chuckiev.blogspot.com).

My longest is 2x 6.5 hr trainer rides leading up to IMAZ 07.

All of my HIM training rides are done inside and even of my 90-100 mile IM/Century training rides are done on a trainer. For really long rides I sometimes do 3-4hrs inside then ride to work to make up the last 2-3hrs. I can knock off a 6hr ride before lunch that way, was great for IM training while working.

Strangely though I can't spend any time on a treadmill. Out of a little over 1k miles last year I did < 6mi on a TM. I will hopefully do less this year.

Did 5 hours once, was not to bad. Had to take a few bathroom breaks and standup and stretch a bit too. I think netflix saved me and still does. Now i just do 1.5-2 hours and bust out a 3 hour once in a awhile.

Hit the wrong answer as I was thinking of my home trainer and the gym stationary in Vietnam--record here is about 2 hours, which included some tempo work so not just easy riding. Occasionally I'll choose to do a 2-hour ride indoors if weather is bad, can't do it early AM due to other commitments, or there's a really good movie, show, or sports event on TV.

But until our tri club in Oregon went bust, did some Computrainer rides in the 3 hour range, maybe longer. I remember a group of us had the Kona video on and were trying to make it to Hawi (halfway?) during the "iron distance ride" time slot; only a few of the faster guys made it, so guessing that was probably closer to 3 hours than 2. I do almost all my outdoor bike training here in a pretty dull setting (industrial park) so I'd happily do a 3-4 hour trainer ride if I had power feedback and a course video or decent movie--it wouldn't be any more boring that what I usually do!

I'm glad to see that my vote of 1-1.5 hr is not in the minority. My long outdoor rides are in the 35-40 mi neighborhood, can't get near that 2-2:30 time on the trainer no matter what form of media I throw at my brain.

For the people who have done around 4 hours +, do you get out of the saddle to stretch at all / often?

I usually take a quick break once an hour to top off water bottles and go to the bathroom if necessary.

For IM training I did 5 hours a number of times.

Usually the Spinervals Hardcore 100

Every 30 minutes I get up and walk around. Make a new bottle, anything to walk up and down the stairs once.

I figure that makes up for stop lights and stop signs.

4:30 for me, and many 2-3 hour rides. For such rides, I get off the bike every 30 minutes, stretch, walk around, bathroom break. Two minute limit. That little break is really my secret to managing long trainer rides. Plus a flatscreen, good shows to watch, TrainerRoad to keep me honest, and noise cancelling headphones.

Having been stuck on ship for 7 months at a time I have logged plenty of time on stationary trainers. My longest time on a trainer was 6 hours and 35 minutes I was going for 8 but got kicked out of the gym because it was navy hours and there turn to use the gym. Other long events included 50k meters on a row machine and a 30 mile run on the treadmill. Which sucked bad

2 hours and a bit here would be my longest stint usually at bike class, but I am not training for any distance races at this point, most trainer rides for me
are in the 45minute to 1 hour range at high intensity doing intervals and sprints vs. just grinding it out at a steady pace my 2hr rides are usually and hour and15 min doing pyramids and hill sims followed by a 45 min steady ride to finish it off..and that will just about eat me up right now.

I did 2:45 last month on a Sunday morning. It wasn't too bad, I watched a movie (White House Down) and an episode of White Collar on Netflix.

2 hours and 45 minutes is the longest for this guy. No real trouble going up to 90 minutes. Two hours and more require a lot of focus and "other" to maintain the race pace exertion that I attempt to maintain while watching real course videos on the my Comptrainer.

I have done 85 miles on the trainer, started at about 1:30am and then went to work after. I got off the bike once for a bathroom break and that was it. I hope to never do something like that ever again but the weather was crappy I had to work and I didn't want to miss any miles.

20 mins
as part of bike run repeats.

Main reason I have a trainer was rehab for a double compound fractured leg.

I live in Australia and usually there's only 2-3 days that I can't ride outside due to weather.

4 or 4.5 hours, can't remember, but it was NOT enjoyable. I did not get off the trainer but did stand up to get out of the saddle a few times. Watched two movies so I didn't go absolutely nuts. It was a weather thing and I would never do it again if I had another option.

Do you people have a different trainer than me or something. 1.5 hours kills me; it's just tough and boring as hell. Even if I watch a movie I just get frustrated with it and really have to fight to get through a session (if it's longer than 60 min)

My longest was a little over 6 hours while training for IMAZ in 2012.   Ugh.

I think mine is an hour. I didn't know whether to vote for the 2nd option or the 3rd option.

Take your time. One of the previous posters took almost 5 years.
