Total Time = 1h 07m 48s
Overall Rank = 15/333
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/25
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, atePB sandwich and drank diet coke. Shower, dressed, load the car up, make sure Dan (Marvarnett) was up from his little-girl, estrogen-infused sleep (my strategy of immersing him in my daughter's world for a night paid exactly no dividends, by the way). In the car and off for the park at 5:30. Hung out with the TNTers and got ready to go.
Event warmup:

15 minute run with some strides, about 5 miles on the bike with a couple of 1 minute all-out efforts and swam the swim course backwards to the start.
Swim
  • 09m 48s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swim based on my fitness. On the plus side...fastest swim in the field! It was tough navigating my way through the slower swimmers in the waves in front of me, though.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Fast T1 (6th fastest overall), but my shoes flopping around after I jumped in the bike hit the ground almost causeing me to crash. Guss I need to do the rubber band thing. Probably lost 20 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Rubberband man...

Comments:

Eh...I need to ride my bike more. Good effort, but my LT sucks.
What would you do differently?:

You know...
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

I love flying dismounts...love them!
What would you do differently?:

Not sit down to put my shoes on, but it helps stave off calf cramps, so I'm OK giving up a couple of seconds.
Run
  • 23m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Just not a lot of run fitness to go on.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran back out on the course to check on my athletes.

Event comments:

I really like this race and I'm obviously happy with the result. I just need to train once in a while and I might be a little better.

Includes long-ass run up the hill to T1. About 8:45 out of the water.
Suit: Oomph! Speed suit
Course: Arcing parabola of sorts. Five buoys ~100m apart were nice, but a canoe at the first buoy blocked the second one from my line of sight, so I turned and swam towards the third one. Lost about 5 seconds making the course adjustment.

Did you wear a cape on the dismount?

No! Capes are always the superhero's downfall!
