Subject: RE: Newbie here: Garmin FR60 vs. Garmin 305? pilotzs - 2009-07-29 3:43 PM Which is better for training, HRM? Which is probably better long term (2 years or so). The should be about the same price since the new 310's are out. The 305 has a multisport mode, which makes it a bit easier to go from bike to run. The FR60 does is ez enough to change modes in, I used it in my last race and it was very easy to use. The 305 has GPS, that's the main difference. The FR60 has user replaceable batteries, which I like. I think most of the features are the same from a display standpoint and what you are able to monitor, except you need the footpod for the FR60 to get speed & distance while running. You have to calibrate the footpod for each pair of shoes, but you also get running cadence. In summary, just depends on what you want. I spend the same amount for an FR60 over a 305 because it had the features I wanted. Almost forgot, you can wear it on the swim also, though I keep mine mounted on the bike, then pull it off for the run. If you're wanting to save money compared to the 310xt then go with the 305. The FR60 is around $120, then you need the footpod & the bike speed/cadence sensor to make it a true multi-sport tool. That adds up pretty quick. I already had the pods & sensors, so it wasn't a matter of price. Here's my review of the FR60Edited by matt_d 2009-07-29 8:51 PM
