I have the newish Aevero's and they are decent shorts.  Ran a 5K and did my first tri in them.  No more revealing than any other tri-shorts out there and in some cases... a lot more modest than other pieces of apparel I've seen.  Honestly I suppose it depends on the wearer.  My complaint on the shorts is that the pad doesn't really fit me that well with some sag in the crotch.  They are snug though in my legs, rear, etc. as I suppose spandex should be.  For me the straddle isn't right though.  E-mail how they fit to Aevero and they will take care of you, they do have great customer service in my experience with them.

I just got a pair of Pearl Izumi Elite Tri shorts and they fit me like a glove.  Overall shorts feel nicer, fit is better(for me) and it has pockets.  Otherwise (IMO) it is a look you have to get used to.  At events you will be one of many in spandex, swim jammer, speedos, etc.

Pic of me in my Pearl Izumi's... I'm the guy w/ blue top.  A year ago you would not have caught me in this sort of "get up".  ;)

I've got a pair of the Aveero's too.  Just got them a while ago, I'm sure they are the new version.  Seem fine to me, though I too think the crotch is a bit low.  If I hike up the legs to get the crotch tight, then the thigh elastic is a bit high and uncomfortable.  When my 5yo daugter saw me in them she announced, "hey, i can see daddy's peanut!"  sheesh, it's not that small...

anyway, yes they are revealing.  No, not much imagination is required.  I have no idea of others are better, but they certainly are more modest than the swim jammers I wear at the pool.

I was not sure at all about the overall fit, and comfort of them at first.  I ran a few miles in them at the track and all was fine.  Any discomfort (tight thigh elastic, feeling of the pad in the crotch) was not noticable at all once running.

danielc - It's a shame because their customer service is fantastic

Really?  I left them a message last night and still have not heard back from them.  I also tried calling twice today and only get a recording.

By the sounds of it, I'm glad I didn't get a hold of them.  I'm a little too modest for skimpy shorts.

It really is good CS.  Email [email protected] - he is the main guy and will definitely take care of you.  To give an example of the service, I had a problem with a drawstring on one pair - he told me to keep that pair and fedexed a brand new pair to me the next day along with a(nother) free gift of a running cap.

Unfortunately as I mentioned, the newer shorts are a different material.  Not awful by any means but IMO I would pay $10-$20 more to get better quality (whereas with the older style you didn't give up much if anything to name brands).

I really hope they move on to a better material.

JC5066 - 2009-08-07 1:21 PM I'm sure the OP is referring to Aevero Tri Shorts.  They are $30 w/ a free gift compared to $60 and up that most Tri shorts cost.  I'm not surprised they are thin.

I was just going to order a pair but couldn't quite pull myself to order.  I figured there had to be something about them that they were 1/2 the price of the next lowest price.

Yes.  They are Aeveros.
So I might not have this issue with some different shorts?   Any suggestions?

All Tri shorts will show a bump.  Most do not give you a detailed structure of your privates.

Exactly.

OP - any of the usual suspects should be a little better as DanielG said.  The last place I bought tri shorts was from f2r.com.  They have some stuff from previous seasons at reasonable prices - e.g. Sugoi shorts for $33.75.  Not all sizes are available though.   Good luck anyway.

I'm actually waiting on a pair ov Aevero's that should be here any day now... there seem to be mixed reviews.  Hopefully I'll have a good experience... and if not, at least I know who to contact.

Dude, I posted a very similar thread when I first starting on with tri shorts!  I feel your pain...

Yes, there is certainly shrinkage during the swim, but for ...ahem... errr... bigger guys, this whole thing is definitely a big problem (no pun intended) when the boys get get hot on the run and start looking for more room!

I've found Desoto Forza shorts to work best. I was using Zoots and Sugois and those things were ridiculous - I thought I was going to be arrested for running in those things the two times I tried.  Those will be strictly bike-trainer-at-home shorts only from now on...  The Desoto's have done well though. They require one or two "adjustments" early in the run to get everything in the right place so it stays there, but then they are good to go.  I've done 18+ mile runs in them sweat-soaked, and they still look and feel good after that.

Good luck!

Cheers, Chris
