Starting today over in Berlin,  Track and Field's World Championships started.

Can Tyson Gay beat Usain Bolt?  Will Jeremy Wariner retain the 400m gold?

Forgot to record today's....will record tomorrow's, too. And prediction: Bolt and Wariner keep theirs.

NBC has some weekend broadcast (forgot to add them on this morning-running late for work)
and if you can get the Canadian channel CBUT....they have very good coverage and commentary.

Bolt again! 9.58 World record in Berlin!

<script src="../../script/fancy.js" type="text/javascript">

16 August 2009 - Berlin, Germany – With a performance that defies imagination, Usain Bolt set a new 100m World record of 9.58 on the second evening of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

The 22-year-old Jamaican knocked a mind-numbing 0.11 second from the 9.69 record he set at the Olympic Games in Beijing exactly one year ago today.

Defending champion Tyson Gay of the USA was second in 9.71, a new national record, and Asafa Powell, the former World record holder was third, in 9.84.

Into a slight headwind at that!  Good to see him run through the finish and pump his chest afterwards.  How low can he go?  I could see him beating 9.50.

What's really sobering is that I just calculated his average speed: 23.35mph.

At least Tyson Gay made it into a race this time, Bolt had to actually run the entire 100m'sSurprised...Just think, Gay breaks the American record and still gets beat by .13 of a second.

400 is a totally different animal.  Obviously I'm sure he's still insanely fast at that distance, but not WR fast.

http://www.flotrack.org/videos/play/153693  He's done a couple in 45 seconds, needs to work on his stamina and strength....Someday though, it could happen.

So an endocrinologist, a gynaecologist, an internal medicine expert, and a psychologist walk into a bar.  They see a woman at sittig at the end of the bar, no wait it was a man sitting at the end of the bar, no maybe it was a woman, no it was definatly a man in drag, no...  Never mind I forgot the rest of the joke.

Bolt said last year he was going to give the 400 a try. He has run it a few times with a pr of 45.28 set in 2007. There are no championships, world or olympic, in 2010 so that is why he wants to give the 400 a shot then. Oh yes, his 9.58 100 was with a .9 tailwind not slight headwind as stated earlier.
