Just to let everyone know who is going to do any one of the 3 Patriots races...the water temperature was 78 degrees yesterday morning.  It has been a little cooler than normal this entire week and I'm not sure if it will warm up for next week.

I would plan on BRINGING YOUR WETSUIT if you have one just in case.

God i hope they are legal, This is my first river swim and I am nervous.
Done a half dozen quarry swimms, but no current.
Course the Jelly fish make me really nervous, but I am trying not to think about them.

As long as it stays above 75 I will be good.  Its so much easier to race without a wetsuit.

There are no jelly fish this far up the James.  I have never seen one or been stung by one in the past 19 years.  The York River is a different story.

Thanks for the info. I've never raced 1500m so my wetsuit would give me that extra bit of security.

One of the women I train with and her husband said they were both stung a bunch of times last year.

I hope that they were just jerking my newbie chain.

I hate having to struggle with the wetsuit. When I was first doing OW swims I loved it. Now I am comfortable enough in the water not to need that extra security.

They must have been, because we didn't swim last year.  I just went this morning and swam and no traces of anything in the water.

The only thing in that water, is pollution and a few comb jellies.  They are very tiny jellies but have not sting to them.  I say they feel like little tiny eye balls rubbing up against you.  Actually they haven't been bad this year compared to last year. The water has been really nice and warm but with the cooler temps the last couple days I'll be wearing my sleeveless wtesuit if they call it legal. Looking forward to this race and the weather looks like it will hold out for us.  The extended is calling for scattered showers and 82.

It looks like you need the extra speed, though.

This isn't a cut on you, I looked at your logs and you and I swim right around the same pace.  And I sure need the extra speed.

Newleaf, looks like we may be walking partners at some point in the run.  My running sucks and I know that I'll probably be walking a good bit.  My bricks have been poor. This is my first HIM and am a bit nervous. One good thing about this run course is it will have a decent amount of shade.

We might indeed... I still haven't decided if I am going to try the run, will probably end up making a gametime decision.  This is a much better course for those of us who like shade.

Thanks for the heads up about the water temp. I was planning on a non-wetsuit legal race but will be prepared for either possibility.

For race day does anyone know what the typical schedule is for TA opening, TA closing, and the Oly waves going off?

Seriously Bummed here.
I have been training for this race since April/ March. Found out tonight that a friend of mine's mother passed away, so I have to go to the funeral on Saturday. This is going to be a tough one.
There were 5 of us that hung out together since grade school. We were/ are so close that we call each other parents ma/ pa. Still a bit in shock.

Sorry to hear that Verga.  You can always race another time, but being there for a friend is necessary at the time of need.  Still, it would be nice to get a refund.

Verga, Sorry to hear such sad news.  It puts my not being able to race the Patriot in perspective for me. My injuries are only temporary, your loss in not. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Maybe you can do the Richmond Sprint in October so as to not waste your training.
