Swim
  • 38m 20s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were 78 people in this wave and there was more combat than usual for a race this size. About 1/4 way into the swim I started wondering why in the world I was even racing today, as I had no real drive. The swim time shows it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Felt longer than this. Was careful taking off my wetsuit as my legs wanted to cramp which has been normal for the end of a 1/2 swim as of late.
Bike
  • 2h 33m 56s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Rain tapered off, but the road was very wet & many puddles. Intended to ride at 230 but would get passed by people who would slow down & speed up and I ended up sitting behind some for longer than I should until I got too fed up and put in about 5 or 10 min at higher than target wattage. That dropped them for good. My NP was 211W with a target of 230, so I probably undercooked it, but I set myself up for a better run, I suppose. I spun out on a number of hills and coasted, so that dropped NP some and spiked IF.
Mood improved as the bike went on. I like being on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

This was supremely unorganized on my part. For some reason I didn't just put my shoes on and run with my race number & watch, but decided to put those on first. Moron.
Run
  • 1h 46m 48s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Started running with Ed from G'boro about mile 3. He mentioned that we could break 5 if we held 8 min/miles. I was close, but that was a bit off anyway. I decided that I would see how much my body could take so that I could make sure I knew I had raced by the way I felt on Monday.
This run is just brutal. 1870' elevation gain over the 13.1. My right quad started to cramp on the last little uphill and made a bombing descent down the last mile impossible. I gave it everything I had, for sure, and I'm damn happy with it. Faster run split than WLH in May.
Also a new HIM run split PR by 4 seconds (over WLH in 2008).

Event comments:

Neat stuff at www.humanvelocity.com:
Came out of the water in 25th place in my AG. Made up 7 (!) places in transition with no one passing me. Made up 14 places on the bike with no one passing me again. Made up another place in T2 to move me into fourth which I held over the run. That's neat.

Congrats! I was the guy in the gray volunteer shirt standing the the finish chute as you came in. Sorry I did not know you were a BT'er. Great job on a tough course!

DougRob - 2009-09-28 11:12 AM  Sorry I did not know you were a BT'er.

I race in stealth mode.

Thanks for being out there.  The volunteers were great, if a little overworked out on the run course.

Great race! Haha, liked your moron comment. Your T time still seems good to me!

Thanks for shouting out my name on the run. It does always surprise me because I am in such a focused state of mind, and by the time I pull out of that, it's too late to see who it was that said "hi" and respond. Lol!
