Capital of Texas Tri, Austin

 First Tri Division (400m/10k/5k)

This is my first tri ever, and I'm kinda wishing I had signed up for the sprint instead of the first tri, and I even thought about calling the RD and "upgrading" but oh well.  I have no wetsuit and the water temp should be around 70, so maybe I'll be happy to be in that water for half the time.

My goal is to finish and have fun.  My running stinks, so I may end up walking part of it.  I am disappointed in only having a 10k bike, which is why I'd really like to do the sprint...but I should probably stick to what I signed up for and be happy.

Is the water really that cool now? I figured with all the heat recently, it'd be warmer. Of course, if it rains like it's supposed to, that'll cool it down.

Dennis,

I am not sure about the exact temperature, but in doing some internet research, it said the average temperature for the lake this time of year is 68-72.  So I split the difference and put 70 in.

Do you think I should upgrade to the sprint and struggle through it, or keep myself in the first tri and be glad since it is my first race?

I've got the nerve and I'll see you at Mt. Gretna. My second, first one was Patriots last Sept. and unless there is a hurricane tonight I think I'll be able to improve that bike time.

Its not a triathlon but I have a 10k race. Its in Ottawa for the National Capital race weekend.

Its my first race ever so I just want to get used to the race atmosphere. It will help me to get ready for my first tri mid June. I currently run a 6min/km pace for a 10k. My main goal is to work on my race pace. I would like to run it in 50-55 minutes.
..

I will be heading down to Ottawa from Montreal too doing the ING Marathon on Sunday morning. I have been really looking forward to this.

Good luck to everyone this weekend, and especially the Cap Tex Tri people. I'll be out there race day cheering you on, I think from the swim exit first, where I'll be a volunteer, then wherever I'm needed or wander off to after that. Have a great time. It looks like it won't be as scorching as it was last year, you're lucky!
