A couple of buddies and I are signed up to compete in a charity Kristy Kreme Run.  Run 2 miles, eat a dozen donuts, then run 2 miles.  The challenge is to be done in under an hour.  I've never eaten close to this many donuts in one sitting, and I've never tried to run on a full stomach.

Anyone tried anything similar and have some advice?

Ive never done that before, but it sounds fun!

Me and some friends are running in a 12k on Saturday, which is help by a brewing company in my town. Basically you run the 12k, get free beer for placing, then get wasted on a buy one get one free special!!!

Eating that many do-nuts you gonna need to run a full Mary to work that off. I would probably puke my guts out with all that sugar in my stomach. Good Luck and let us know how you did.

When is this? I'm in the early stages of planning something similar in my area and would appreciate any suggestions and/or feedback.

practice puking while running.... It's part of the same skill-set as peeing while biking, but still needs practice to perfect.

Oh, and take note of the wind direction before attempting your first mid-stride puke.

I love Krispy Kreme and there is one right by my house.  My son and I stop there for breakfast every Friday before school.  I would be screwed. I can manage one, and I'm done.

We have a charity race in RI twice a year held by the Wild Colonial Tavern in Providence.  It's called the Grog and Dog Jog.  I'ts a 5 mile, 4 person relay.  In order to "pass the baton" the runner completes their 1.25 mile run and then must eat a hot dog and drink a 16 ounce beer before the next team member can run.  It's an absolute blast!

I actually ran a race similar to this, but with slightly different rules. I found it easier than I thought to run with 15 doughnuts in me! I ended up winning the race. Here's my race report with all the details:

Nice report Steve. Interesting rules. Do you have the website of that race?

Moondawg, that was hilarious.  I sent it out to a few friends, and I'm pretty sure it convinced them to do this as well.

Steve, I think I like the schedule for your race better.  Sounds like much less puking.

ESPN actually covered (ok it was taped and showed a month or two later) this last year---one of their "reporters" that's completed a marathon "ran" the KK challenge---started the run in a suit and with a mike and was talking to people, then ate the donuts and well the return "run" wasn't as "smooth"........I'm too lazy to find it but I'm sure if you search for the video it's somewhere online.......

I'm considering doing this with the old tri club.  Only using Dunkin' Donuts and 6 Jelly filled instead of KK and glazed.  I have the route and the timing pads to allow for donut eating and run split analysis.

Fun!

We have two weekly criterium series here that run from the first week of May to the last week of August. The last race of the series is always a fun one. The Thursday night series often has a donut race.

It's a crit, but there are bell laps, and when you here the bell on the next lap, you have to stop and eat a donut. Usually you end up eating 3 or 4 donuts during a 30 minute crit. I learned that I am a slow donut eater. Some of those guys can shove a whole one in their mouth and I just take little bites. At least there's usually some people for me to chase back to the pack with.

Oh and you end up with sugar all over your handlebar tape. Good times!

We did an alleycat last Halloween that had 7 checkpoints. You had to down a beer at each checkpoint. I finished in under 2 hours, then proceeded to drink 2 PINTS of pre-made mojitos.

I learned a few things about myself that day, but the most important was that it would probably have been a good idea to eat something before that. Oh and also not go to work directly from said alleycat. Holy moley.

The original Krispy Kreme Challenge is at NC State.  Link to the website here.  Thousands of people show up every year.  I'm planning on it for 2010.

My tri club (North Atlanta Multisport Club) is hosting a Krispy Kreme run this weekend.  You get 1 min off of your time for every donut eaten and retained.  My husband is running.  Here is a link for any locals or folks in Atlanta for the weekend:  http://www.northatlantamultisport.org/index.asp?page=NEWS#89

Not a run, but there is a bike race on Labor Day at the Lehigh Velodrome that is similar.  36 miles of rolling hills, in the rough shape of a figure 8.  At the nexus, there is a stop with Krispy Kremes that you hit twice (on teh way out and again on the way back) .  3 minutes deducted from your time for every donut eaten.

I think I managed 8 donuts - KK are too sweet for my taste.  I prefer unglazed donuts in general.  Jelly would have been good, or cinnamon.  Maybe some chocolate donuts as well.  [homer voice] mmmmmmm - donuts.....[/homer voice]
