wstchstrTriathlete - 2009-11-22 7:09 PM how are the road conditions for the bike portion of this race? I have read that the roads are completely closed off from cars? Is that true? Thats incredible! Finally, is the wind a factor? If so, is the wind always consistent on those roads around that time of year?

The roads were all in good shape. There are just some spots on the beginning/end where they are concrete and have small gaps where the slabs come together. There were a lot of aero sponges rocketed, mine included. It is totally closed, very cool experience.

Overall I heard good things about the roads last year, have to wonder how the course change will effect this.

has anyone used Tri Bike Transport? Did they offer this service for the race last year? curious as to where the bikes are dropped off and picked up @ this race. There is a bike shop not far from my office that uses them.

also, where are most people staying for this race? I see that the Hilton New Orleans Riverside is the official hotel. i take it most of the briefings/meetings are held here and that the race shuttles run from here?

Can't help you on the bike transport but for the hotel I went ahead and reserved for Saturday and Sunday nights at Hilton New Orleans Riverside.  Unless they have really late checkout I didn't want to have to worry about check out on Sunday.

Last year TriBike didn't go to NO 70.3.  I have used their services 3 times, now for IMKY 08, 09 and IMAZ 09....AMAZING SERVICE!  Last year when I raced NO, I used UPS...they played soccer with my bike.  Total nightmare going through the insurance claim process.....started the claim in April and they did not agree to pay for thedamages until July!  Hearing TriBike Transport going to NO for 2010, best news I have heard all day   Oh, typically they set up the pick-up location next to tansition, super easy!

So I finally pulled the trigger and I am IN for this race!

for more on tri bike transport, I was looking here:

http://www.tribiketransport.com/events.html

"*Schedule subject to change"

"Ford Ironman 70.3 California
Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans
Ironman St. George - Utah
St. Anthony's Triathlon
......
......"

I have my fingers crossed that the schedule does NOT change! especially based upon AbbieR's experience. Says the schedule/reservations/logistics should start very soon.

After several weeks of debating between this event and the Lonestar 70.3 in Galveston a week later, I finally settled on this one.  Lots of improvements based on what has been published and that was part of my decision.  Looking forward to this event.  Happy Training and Happy New Year!

Does anyone know why they are not posting a participants list? I have noticed other tri directors doing the same thing. The reason is I am trying to wait as long as possible to pay for it.Cool

For those considering this event I just found out there are less than 800 slots available. The RD believes it should fill by the first week of Feb.

question for the 2nd timers to test their memory, about how many waves were there, I'm M 42 Clyde, just trying to figure out where I'm gonna fit in, I'm shooting for a sub 7 hour race but goals and reality are two different things, i've heard that the race cutoff will be 8 hours after start of last wave and will be enforced, any help is appreciated

Not sure the exact number of waves, but there were alot. Something like 20 or 25 waves. Both men and women every five years like M20-25, M25-30, F20-25, F25-30 and so on.

Hi
Just found this thread.  I am in. This will be earliest race in season ever and also the first one that I haven't been able to drive to - so big adventure for me.
I haven't done a HIM before but I have done an IM so I am familiar with lots of indoor training as I live in upstate NY

I am in the same boat as you in terms of early season and first race my car is not packed with gear. I went the hassle free way and am using Tri Bike Transport to get my bike from NY down to New Orleans.

The trainer is my best friend right now, but I'm looking for a breakup already!

If my memory is correct, M40-44 were in the last few waves to get started. I think there were 2 or 3 waves and that we started roughly an hour and ten minutes after the first wave.

You're kidding, wave start? that sucks... I like mass starts like IMAZ. Oh well, does it at least have a beach run or is it a deep water start?

They had the list but have replaced it with a name/DOB search.  Privacy issues or may be just too big of a file to download (for their servers)?

About 13 weeks left!

With the event 13 weeks away, how's everybody putting in the long rides? Weather hasn't been friendly here in Dallas lately. Does anybody have ideas to make a trainer enjoyable for three hours?, I feel like a squirrel on that thing.
