I'm wondering who has the fastest 5k time for a Clyde/Athena.  I'm wondering what is reasonably obtainable.

My current PR is 24:27

I have never tried an open 5k, but I'm farely certain I could do a 7:00 mile based on some hard training efforts during my peak portion of my season, so just under 22:00.

I am also confident, that if I were to focus and train for a fast 5k, I could gut out a sub 20:00.  But that's just speculation.

Athena here - PR of 24:45, but I've never specifically trained for 5Ks so I think it is pretty soft.  5Ks hurt too much.

I would guess right now  it would be about a 24:00.  I know that I was in better shape last spring but never ran a timed 5k.  Mine on my own without anyone else running with my I did a 22 minute 5k on a flat run.

I would say that I should be able to get under 20, but I am too heavy right now.

21:46 a 7:01 average is my PR so far.

However, I improved later in the year, 2 months later, to a 6:55 mile for a 4 mile run at the end of a sprint.

My best time this past summer was 21:28. I was at 225-230 at the time. Guessing that I'll be sub-20 by the summer. I have a buddy who is about 235 running at about 19 (and also running ultras).

My 5K race on 1/2/10 was done in 30:34. It was a cold morning on a flat city street course. It was my first attempt at running anything in 22 years.

I run 5K distances now on my daily runs and the best is a 29:30 to date. I just started running 2.5 months ago and am at 254 lbs, down from 328 lbs. on 8/3/09.

I hope to do better in my runs as I build on the distances and continue to lose weight.

x2. My best as a Clyde was a 26.10 in a sprint. That was with a bad heart before I knew what was wrong. I would think a fit and well trained clyde should be able to knock 5min off of that pretty easily.

hey

37 minutes this summer when I was amping up my running. Then knee issue and all running stopped.

2010  Knee scoped & rcovering so I hope in 2010 to slowly train and get my time down to 32 min.

Somewhere around 260 right now.

I just want to say how truly impressed I am, at these sub-30 minute 5k times that some of you have posted.   I've been running (if you can call it that) on a regular basis (4-6x/week) for roughly 5+ years now.  I usually run about two 5k races per year, and all of my finishing times have been in the 29-31 minute range.   For the record, I'm a 5'6", 152lb athena...so compared to some of you Clydes out there that are hauling around 250+ lbs and whipping off 20-25 minute 5k's...that makes me pretty darn pokey.   Granted, my biggest limiting factor is chronic low back pain...but even if that wasn't an issue, I seriously doubt that I'd ever run a sub-28 5k.   Kudos to you all!!!

Linda

19:52 best ever

Best last year was 21:19.  Only ran one race.

Hoping to break 20:30 in that one rest next year.

My trianing buddy is just short of Clyde at about 195 and he is almost breaking 18:00. He makes me feel like I'm standing still.

I've only done one.... 34:27 at a weight of 318 ( last Mother's day).
That time will improve considerably with another year of training and a weight of 275-80.

I rarely run 5ks any more....but my 10k PR in October was 50:16, making the 5K approx 25 min.  Not bad for a big gal!  I PR'd a lot of events this year even though my weight hasn't gone down.  This year I plan to drop pounds and time!

Well first run out after Strep Throat this weekend and the broken and dislocated toe two weeks ago.  Only made 2 miles cause the toe was killing me, but I got it done in 20:13... so right at 2 min. miles...  so I was happy.

My first ever 5k was 30:30 last april and by Aug. set my PR of 26:16 in a stand alone 5k on a fairly hilly course. .  I will hopefully be breaking that big time in April this year.   I am still carrying way to much weight at 280, so hopefully as that continues to drop the speed goes up.
