Not really anything relevant to say, just--thank God for April 1!!

I was glued to my radio yesterday evening, and enjoyed watching Bonds' 659th (born and bred Giants fan... sorry!). What a pleasure.

The chewing tobacco, the green-green grass, the scratching in indelicate places, the sound of the bat. What's not to like???

Max, how many games until Montreal does away with them?  I haven't watched much this year, but if past trends continue......

I know, I know--there's so much not too like about baseball.

But in the end I can't help myself!! Even though not a Cubs or Red Sox fan, that's a game I'd pay to see. So I'll support you in that cause... if the Giants don't have a hope in hell. Of course at this point in the season, I'm always an optimist... even if they don't give me much reason to be!!

Oh, and Mike?? Be kind! I know that we are an absurdity to most... but it's ok, you can leave us (baseball fans that is) in a corner to play by ourselves!!

Mike can have the ....soccer corner all to himself.  We'll take the baseball corner.  Just make sure it is a BIG corner!  About 300' down the lines and about 400 straight away!

nahhhh...probably throw a bat at him

there is a poll on www.espn.com and out of the 22K people who have responded, 71% think Steinbrenner has ruined the game.  And that's all I have on Kevin's comment..........for now     Back to my paper.  Almost done, just one more section.

I think it's gonna go 6 games Ellen...then again the B's have had such a good failure rate once they hit the playoffs that all bets are simply off. Just when you think that "This is the year!" they go into the tank once again. Hmmm, sound like a familiar pattern? I'm wondering if it's something in the Boston water supply...at least the Pats are drinking it out in Foxboro!

I know, that's why I have pretty much given up watching the B's.  That and I find my son's hockey to be much more fun.  At least it looks like Jacobs and the front office have realized they just may need a winning product to sell some seats.  That's what I'm guessing the new acquisitions are for.  Not like I can afford tix anyhow!

$100 to go watch the Bruins and have the chance to eat a $6 hot dog is right up there with $75 lift tickets at Killington. No wonder I gave up skiing. But geez, this tri stuff isn't exactly a bargain either.

OK lets not get too wound up about baseball quite yet...I mean it is about a 1,000 game season (or so it seems).

we paid double face-value to a scalper on the street the year the Fleet Center opened, to see the B's lose to Montreal.  Nose bleed seats too, BYO oxygen.

lift tickets are only 50 bucks at Sunapee and there are ways to get in cheaper, with passes and whatnot.  Cheaper on weekdays too.  Bought skis (cheaper than a bike!) and no longer have to shell out for rentals.

1000 games or 10000 games, it's never enough.  NESN usually reruns the game a few hours later and my husband nearly had a stroke when I was ready to watch it again!  I give him 2 more weeks before he retreats to his computer for the duration of the season.

ok, now I'm REALLY almost done with this paper.  If I could just stay away from here!

Don't get me wrong I like baseball. Its just I'd rather watch Cricket

I hear, you, Ellen. I often listen to the baseball at midnight replay of the local games, even if I listened to them in real time! I usually don't tell people that. They already think I'm pretty nuts!

Stop reading this Ellen, and finish your paper!

Dana

BTW, shouldn't it be spring break???!!?

we had spring break in March.  two weeks of it.  Way too long if you ask me.  I think we have 4 weeks then finals left after this week.  Then another 2 or 3 week break and into the first summer session.  There are 2 summer sessions, one for June and one for July.  I'm taking 2 classes each session.  Getting antsy to get this stuff done.

working on biblio now....almost there.  Of course web pages I've used for sources won't load.....figures.

First of all I am a fan of baseball. It does not matter if it is major league, minor league, college Etc..... I enjoy watching all levels.

I am a Yankees fan...... I have been ever since I was 6 years old. While they are known to spend a lot of money to improve their team they have also brought up a lot of their players through the minor leagues in previous years. For Example last years roster had Soriano, Pettite, Johnson, Jeter, Williams and Posada. All of these players came up through the farm system. The reason George has the money to keep these prospects in his system is that he has been able to negotiate great TV deals in the New York market. Just a reminder that New York has two teams in the same market. The LA area has a larger market than George but they do not use their resource properly. The disparity in Baseball can not be put on George. All the owners are to blame. George was not the one who gave Arod a  deal for 22 million dollars a year. In order for baseball to survive though something has to be done to control the amount spent on players salaries. They are going to price themselves out of existence.

Last year at work. I used to watch the Redwing(AAA team in Rochester) on the stadiums webcam and listen to the games on the radio. The video feed update every few seconds and was tough to tell what was going on. They all looked like ants but that was the best I could do from work.
