Hopefully I'll buy a nice one soon, but for now I've been measuring with tbs, tsp, cups, etc. For meats I estimate that a deck of cards = 4oz.
I hate corny lines, but it is true that every moment is a chance to make the "right"/best choice we can with regard to food and training. When I despair, often, I remind myself it's a lifestyle. The month isn't over yet!


Musclemomma, you're sooo right.  But also remember that sometimes you have to make hte "best BAD" decison with regard to food and training.

Before our Team Skinny Tread drop to the bottom of the page I thought I'd tell you all that I ran 2.4 miles without stopping on Saturday.  I was doubly impressed with myself because my running partner has decided to stop running and I really had to convince myself to get out and do it.  The first half mile was tough and I wanted to stop, but by 1.5 miles I was totally in the groove.  If it hadn't been so hilly I might have kept going.  I felt so good when I got home.

Good job Sheilby. If you are anything like me you will find that the first mile or so is always tough....Then a miracle happens and it seems to get so much easier.

Thanks Saling, I think I am like you.  I noticed it on the elliptical machine too - the first 15 minutes it takes all my effort to keep going; then after that it is usually the kids needing me that gets me off the thing.  I just have to keep reminding myself of that so that I don't give up too early.

That first mile on the run or the first 3-4 on the bike are like: Do I really want to do this? Once I get past that I am rolling...LOL.

totally fallen off the weight loss wagon this month as i've been undergoing a major upheavel! moving back to birmingham and in with my folks to help get over a case of ptsd. thinking nmoving back there will help my weight loss because i won't be eating so much crap and it's also a LOT hillier - yay!

My calculated risk payed off.  Last week I noticed my calorie intake had drifted down to about 1400-1500.  I started thinking that if that was what I was eating at 200+ pounds what was I going to be able to eat when I was in the 130's?  I decided to increase my calorie intake to around 1750-1800 for the week (actually I hit 1900 on average) and that seems to have revved up my engine.  It was a little scary and one day I felt like I was losing control.  I was afraid I was going to go off the wagon but I kept telling myself I didn't need to be perfect.  I logged everything I ate even when I didn't want to admit to it, and I think that was the most important reason I got back on track.  The one day I thought I was so "bad" wasn't as bad as I thought when I really looked at the raw numbers in fitday.  I've been working on my all or nothing attitude especially when it comes to exercising.  My new mantra is something is better than nothing.  

Goal for May - 194 

Boy I can't wait to say goodbye for good to the 200's.

Okay. A 1.2 pound loss for the month. I'll take it. I actually feel lighter and tighter and this week I wore my "skinny suit" for the first time since law school. I can't really complain. My original goal of 146 was unrealistic.

Garceau - you lost over three pounds! That is awesome. You're moving in the right direction. Keep it up and don't get discouraged!

My goal for next month will be just to get under 150.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You've made progress. I've been working for three months now and am finally making some progress. Keep at it and you'll see the difference over time.

Thought I was doing pretty good. I'm up this week but then thought "compared to where I started this month, its been good." Then I checked where I started and I am only down 1 pound. Still, its one pound less than where I started. It probably would have been better if I had stuck to my training.

I sure hope to be rid of the 200's by the end of May. I would like to be at 195, but what I would like hasn't seemed to make much of a difference lately.

Bad week for me... gained a kg so gone from 95kg to 96kg.

Fallen off the wagon not so much from eating but from getting injured training for a hlaf marathon so haven;t run or bikeed for the past 3 weeks. going to physio to get it sorted and hopefully May will be the month to get the weight shifted....

concerntrating on swimming and weights at the minute. so once i incoporate the runs and bikes hopefully some will come off...

5 pounds isn't too bad. Don't be too hard on yourself. Straighten out something that YOU KNOW you are doing wrong and pedal to the metal.
