Welcome John! You picked a great race for your first tri. We'll all post our race numbers here when we get them. I rode the course for 2 hours on saturday (36 miles.) I know the section you speak of, it doesn't look bad but you feel it every time. It should be fun. Hopefully we'll get it over and done before it get's too humid.

Be sure to enter your races in your race log. That way you'll show up in the list of those scheduled to race. There will be at least 5 of us that I know of.

Doug...

I'm headed down, tomorrow, to look things over (finally).  Sorry I haven't been able to do it, sooner.  If you (and/or anyone else, for that matter( can or want to head over, let me know.  I'm very flexible on timing.  I need to hit REI while I'm in Raleigh (or another LBS) to pick up an aero bottle.

Let me know, here, or drop me a line.  I can meet out there most any time.....and the earlier in the day....the better.

Thanks, Doug, I'm looking forward to it.I entered the race in my log and put in my training over the last few/next few days. I'll be sure to post up my number once I pickup the race packet on Thursday night as well. Hopefully I meet some of you all on Saturday.I'm planning an easy bike/run brick for tomorrow evening - I could do it over at the race site, but it's not going to be until ~6pm. The Trek BS is up in front of Bedford/Falls River right off Durant Rd behind a Bojangles. They have a lot more bike stuff than the REI over in North Hills (IMO).John

Hey Jeff- saw your note in the other forum. Are you sure you need hydration on a relatively short race like this? They "should" have water on the run and if you are well hydrated going into it you might not need to drink at all. FWIW, I have more trouble on the run if I suck down too much on the bike. Just my 2c. But if you do get an aerodrink, make sure you secure it well before the race- mine came off during my last race...not good. See you guys on Saturday! Doug, it will be good to see you again- its been a while. And hopefully I can meet some of the other folks who are racing. Should be a nice race. Starting at 8am it shouldn't be toooo bad by the time we start running, right? :-)

John:

You have some good advice here. The Trek bike shop is right near the Bedford neighborhood, and as Louis said, I do not plan on drinking on the bike. If I need a sip I can get it on the run or in transition. The entire race should be done before we reach the high heat for the day.

You guys are undoubtedly right.  I've done longer runs, even, on no hydration (just to see).  Hell, I'll probably hydrate in the pool.  I'm still gonna pick one of these up.  It'll be nice on my training rides.  I suppose I can grap a quick drink in T2.

You gonna be out that way, tomorrow, Doug?  I could even run the bike course, if you have a run planned (and don't mind doing it at a slower pace!).

Thanks for the input.  Noted.

These guys are much tougher and faster than me, but if it's anything like 2 years ago, don't go into the run dehydrated! Get your aero bottle, practice with it a few times, and use it for at least a little water on race day. This course probably won't bounce it out, but it will rattle and annoy the heck out of you if you don't secure it.

It's a time trial start, so slow swimmers like me might not start until after 9 pushing us farther into the heat of the day.

Actually judging from Jeff's avatar, he seems to have all the hydration he needs right there in his hand! Dude, just strap that to your helmet with a straw and you will be fine.

Trust me.....Look me up right after (if) I finish.....and I'll have one for you, too.

Never too early to start hydrating for the next race!

Nice to know that we have several first timers in this event.  This is also my "rookie" year doing triathlons.  I've been nursing a calf pull for the past few days and have missed a few days of training.  Tomorrow I'll hit the pool at the Y to see if I can learn a flip turn.  Not sure if I will incorporate into the race.  I am afraid to run and bike right now because of the calf.  After Gary Kirby I won't have to race again until The Smile Train so I should be ok by then.  I am also planning to bring some white doves to release before the start of the race on Saturday.

Tomorrow is my son's birthday so I cannot be at the course to train. Sorry Jeff. I have an AM swim and a run later, but will have to squeeze that into the day around my son's day.

What time are you going to be in the area tomorrow Jeff? If you can do early, say 8-8:30, I can meet you there. I'd like to get a look at the course before Sat. I can do earlier if that's better for you, I'll just move my swim to later in the day.

Enjoyed the company, Dave.  Thanks a lot!

p.s. - Does anyone know if it would be possible for my wife and I to "stay after" and enjoy the pool for a while?

No doubt, Jeff. It's always nice to ride the course before a race. See you on Saturday.

Last year staff didn't let racers back in after to go to the restroom. Luckily the residents, especially the ones racing, were much friendlier.

According to the race website, the swim times should be posted, tonight.  If you happen to know anyone around my time....tell them to please HTFU (in front) and BTFO (in back).

Thank you.CryTongue out

Wow, that is a late packet pick-up! Any of the men in my AG should stop off for a 6 pack or 2.

I'm thinking about doing a few loops of the bike course that night before packet pick-up if anyone is interested. Mostly slow (15-16), with a few faster (20-22), short intervals.

What is the parking situation? I think I might drive up before my wife and the kids on Sat morning so was curious whether you thought they would have any issues parking if they pulled in at, say, 7:45 or so?

Bib numbers and swim start times are posted! I am #41. The last one before a break! Yeah!! Hopefully no one will pass me in the water, or if they do they will be very fast. Louis There is parking along the side roads and behind the stores on St. Paul's Square down near Falls River Ave.

Bib # 101.

I just got back from the Y.  I wish I hadn't gone.  The air system was down, and the air in there was stifling (the water was like a bath).  I couldn't swim for *%Y%!

Hopefully, the fresh air/cooler water will be good to me.

I'll make my time.  I just may do it on my side.

Looking forward to meeting you guys.

I am #28. I think I flubbed my swim time and asked FSSeries about it. No response. Oh well, this is my first pool swim tri so it should be fun- not used to people tricking into the swim start (as opposed to a larger wave start in a lake). Rob, you start a few mins behind me...catch me if you can :-)

I also have Mark as 147, Linda as 10 (she is a fish in the water!) and Rob as 65. Oh, and Phil is #3!! I don't know John's last name, but from his handle jp... I am betting he in #68.
