![]() Run
Comments: I started off too fast because I was keeping up with the group of people around me and not paying attention. Slowed down a bit after about a half mile, but still felt really good and tried to keep a decent pace as long as my knee would let me. Ended up being my fastest pace yet- I usually run just under 10/min miles. What would you do differently?: Not start out quite so fast, I guess.. but this was pretty solid otherwise. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Estimated time. Grabbed a water on my way into transition, switched shoes, put on my helmet, and I was off. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was pretty smooth. ![]() Bike
Comments: I don't know my exact time on the bike because I forgot to use my lap button, but it was just around an hour, give or take a minute. As soon as I turned onto the course, there was a crazy headwind which lasted for at least a third of the ride... couldn't really get my speed above 14 the whole time. Rough. As soon as I was able to turn away from the wind, things felt great and I was really able to push my speed pretty well. Considering I had only ridden my bike once in the few weeks leading up to this, I was really happy with how I rode. Minus the dead skunk in the road. That was gross. What would you do differently?: Not much, other than just have a stronger training base... this was pretty good. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Estimated time. Same as last time, switched shoes, threw off the helmet, started running. Grabbed a water on my way out of transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Duathlon transitions are so much nicer than tris! ![]() Run
Comments: Slight estimate on the time, but I'm pretty sure it's close. My legs were definitely feeling heavy when I started this run. I tried to keep a slow and steady pace as best I could, but my knee was really feeling the previous two legs and it was a bit painful. Melanie told me later that I was visibly limping, even though I thought I was doing pretty well at avoiding looking like a gimp. Oh well. I managed to run almost the entire thing, but had to walk up the small uphill towards the end of the second mile. Sprinted hard towards the finish and passed a girl I'd been trailing for the whole run. What would you do differently?: Considering my injured knee, there wasn't much I could've done differently. I wish I could have run a bit faster during this second run, but overall I was happy with my finish. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Ate some free pizza and drank like 3 bottles of water. Sat around to watch the raffle and chat with friends. Event comments: This was a FREE race, and was totally fun! Very small, local event... but everybody was super nice and friendly, raffle prizes were great, course was simple and easy to follow. Can't beat it. Last updated: 2010-04-01 12:00 AM

Prior to this race, I had done just about nothing for a few weeks due to a stressed knee injury. I wanted to be sure I'd be up for my triathlon two weeks later, so this was my test run to make sure I could power through whatever pain I may have later. ;)
Showed up 30 minutes prior to race time, ate a banana, chatted with Mel and her friends a bit. This was an free and un-timed race, so nobody had bib numbers and it was up to everyone to time themselves. Very relaxed atmosphere, about 150 people.
No warmup, just stretched a little bit and made sure my ipod was ready to go.
