So who do you think will win the TDF? Pick your top 5 finshers for the yellow jersey. The person who gets all tops 5 spots gets bragging rights (nothing). Or maybe the hottie of the month will send them a personal pic. Maybe the hottie of the month will send me a personal pic for starting this cool thread.

Here are my top 5

1. Alexandre Vinokourov
2. Jan Ullrich
3. Lance
4. Ivan Basso
5. Levi

team discovery will be strong again this year so lance should get the support he needs, plus how do you bet against arguably the greatest cyclist of our time...

I want Lance to win just like the next guy i really do, but i think this year's course really doesn't suit him to well. And it's just a feeling i have.
Trust me i want Lance to win!!!

I think/hope Lance will win. Primarily the main difference is the Euros dont have the heart to win and rise to the challenge. (You can argue that amongst yourselves, remember I was born in Spain)

Jan Ullrich - will always fall short. Maybe once Lance retires he might win.

Ivan Basso - Perhaps may not be recovered from the Giro, although maybe a contender. But remember Lance slammed him in the hills after Ivan beat him. He just cant repeat hill victories like Lance.

Alexandre Vinokourov - is definately a threat. In my opinion HE should be the leader for TMobile not Jan.

Alessandro Patachi - I think could be a player, if his team and strategy is on.

Fletcha - will win stages, Flandis may win a stage, Jullich, Mayo & Heras will be in the pack its a coin toss.

I just have a bad feeling that some stupid fan's gonna pull some dumb move like not get out of the way in time while taking a picture or tackle Lance off his bike or toss a broomstick through his spokes or something like that. I really hope I'm wrong but I think there's gonna be a fan-induced crash that could be costly.

1st - 9th: Team CSC

1: Basso
2: Jurlich
3: Sastre

This is what I think will happen (stolen from another thread)

all 9 CSC riders will take the top 9 after the following happens: the rest of every team will abandon the race due to an omen of chickens running up Alp d' Huez. A plauge of mono will break out from the podium girls that infected Cuengo, which Greg Lemond will call doping and begin to make excuses that he had mono when he lost some race he should have won. Lance will be caught using a micro motor in his rear derailuer, Ekimov will leap from the bushes and pace fellow russian Yaroslav Popovych in a cold war-esque coup of Lance Armstrong (now disgraced from his micro motor discovery.) Robbie will lead a rebellion of Aussies that will refuse to sprint, due to work conditions, and invade every pub in France and insist the francophones have no idea how to pour an ale. The tour will be won by CSC taking all 9 remaining positions, but only after being put into a 'spot of bother' by a roaming band of 9 year old football hooligans on BMX bikes.

That's what I really think.

I have to vote for Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano, mostly because he has a cool name. It's not what I really think will be for final results, but I'm goin' with it. Wonder if he has any odds at Las Vegas?

I know Lance has trained hard and really dialed in his fitness levels, but what about Georgia? I know Lance is the emotional favorite and I want him to win too, but man, he just melted at Georgia.

Was he just (shhh) sandbagging?

Absolutely right.  Jan will always wilt in the mountains.  Vino is a much stronger rider than Jan is.

Here's my example of Euro Cycling mentality. Ullrich's quote in Velonews.

"Lance has dominated the Tour for the last six years and whoever beats him is going to be the greatest," Ullrich continued. "A true sportsman always wants to beat the best. This year's duel will be the most exciting because this is his last Tour."

So the fact that Lance has won 6 TdF doesnt make him the greatest, its the guy who beats him going for #7. What an idiot!

LOL...must have been something lost in the German to English translation!

What he really meant to say is "No way I can win this thing...my contract with the local doughnut shop and the Hoffbrau is cutting into my training time."

I don't think you guys are giving Landis the credit he deserves. He's been amazing in the TTs he's entered and last year he basically pulled Lance up the mountains. I think he'll be a real contender this year. Him and Basso.

I think Landis is great, unfortunately he does not have the team or support he will need for the TdF, that being I said I personally wouldnt mind being wrong.

Alessandro Patachi - I think could be a player, if his team and strategy is on.

Pettachi is not racing the TdF this year.  Plus, he climbs like a brick.  He's a phenominal threat on flat stages, but could never stick with the contenders on the climbs.

My top 5:

  1. Lance
  2. Ullrich
  3. Basso
  4. Vino
  5. Landis

I can't see betting against Lance.  He's got the team and the motivation.  Ullrich looks strong, but I think T-Mobile having 3 podium contenders is going to cause problems.  Basso could be a real threat - he climbs well and his TT has improved dramatically.  Vino's fun to watch with his attacking style, but hasn't shown the ability to dominate in the mountains day after day after day - plus being on the same team as Ullrich and Kloden will cause problems.  Landis is an emotional vote.  I don't know if he can ride that well, but I'd like to see him do it.

I would like to see Ullrich go for the win to make Lance's possible victory even sweeter, but I have to agree that Ullrich's sponsorship deals with Krispy Kreme and Chocolate Milk will be his downfall.

You're right I forgot he's going after the World's, to busy responding to the list above. Yes he climbs like a brick but with a good team they can keep him close, remember there are other way to win the tour than in the hills.
