Well doing good on the hills has proven to be really effective. If your not a solid climber your not going to win the tour.

Sure Lance did not fare well at Georgia but remember, he plays these head games to get the competition to become overconfident. I still think that Lance will win the Tour so my top 5 pick would be:1. Lance Armstrong2. Jan Ullrich 3. Ivan Basso4. Alexandre Vinokourov 5. Levi Leipheimer

1-Vino
2-Basso
3-Jan

Lance is not going to win this year, too much preassure, too much good competitors.

lance has proven that noone can beat him when hes in his top form. the question in my mind is, did he prepare as well for this tour as the last several? the only way i can see anyone beating lance is if he hasn't. but you gota think that he did knowing its his last tour, knowing how fierce of a competitor he is, knowing tht everyone will be wanting to beat him more than ever since this is his last tour.

Lance will win just because he is Lance.....Vino will finish second after Fat Boy (Ullrich) is unable to ride his Pilsbury Dough Boy body up to Courcheval. Basso might finish on the Podium but don't be surprised if Popovich is there if he doesn't bury himself too bad in the mountains to TT well. Floyd will crack...plus his team is weak, Heras is too big of a wuss to attack, and Iban Mayo needs to stay home and concentrate on the Vuelta.

P.S. Pettachi isn't racing in the Tour this year

I would never bet against Lance, but I don't really buy this playing possum thing either. I could see it working oh, maybe the first 5 tours but after that, everyone knows he is coming to play and will be in shape. I think his biggest downfall will be his girlfriend, Cheryl. You don't ever see him without her and she will be the end of him. IMHO, If he doesn't win it's because of her!

Hey, careful about casually throwing that doughboy stuff around.

My guess is Jan's undoing will be his own team, as Lance is having to respond to Vino and Kloden.  Plus Basso and Floyd can probably ride away faster than Jan

I agree about Floyd not being there in the end.....At the Dauphine his team was gone after every bump in the road leaving him to his own.

Sorry Doughboy no offense....didn't know that you were a triathlete...how do you fit those rolls on a bike anyway? Must be hard to run with everyone trying to poke you trying to get you to go "whoo Hoo"

Lance has everything to lose and the most to win. I don't believe anyone on this tour will have that drive, that deep determination and that type of gut goal that says now or never.

There will be lot's of interesting stages, but the hope of most is for Lance to pull this one out and then hang up the phone!

Well thanks for asking rocketman....I took up triathlon specifically so I could Rise to the occasion of extreme sports.

Well....I can't call myself a triathlete quite yet.  I do know my limitations though...I can only do cold weather triathlons, as the hot ones tend to bake me.

As for the rolls, they are quite helpful on the swim becasue they are full of air pockets....No wet suits needed.  Frankly when I wear one, I look less like a doughboy, and more like a sausage.

Woo Hoo

Lance, because he rides Blue bikes.  His team jersey is also Blue.

Though he has one thing going against him.  The dreaded Sport Illustrated cover jinx.  I may cancel my SI subscription if he loses.  LOL :-Þ

With the disappointing outcome of Tyler Hamilton (he's innocent), Phonak's chances are slim. I love Floyd and he proved himself last year, but he's on his own this year. Jan surely knows what it feels like to be on the podium, and he may again once on the podium, after Lance retires. T-Mobile - well...they wear pink, enough said. My bet this year for the Team TT goes to CSC, and I think Julich will make a strong showing in the opening TT. He was almost left off the team, and I think he'll try to prove something. He's an amazing sprinter.

I'm going to get a Gerolsteiner jersey and wear it every ride during the Tour to support my man Levi Leipheimer, fellow Montanan and stud cyclist with a top 10 Tour finish under his belt, now leading his own team. Also married to a former pro cyclist. Go Levi!!

This is funny....

"Jan Ullrich may well be happily in love once again - dating the sister of team-mate Tobias Steinhauser - but there seems to be no love lost within the T-Mobile ranks ahead of Saturday's Tour start. Bild reports that both Andreas Klöden and the snubbed Erik Zabel have had a pop at their team leader."...Eurosport.com

  1. Lance
  2. Vino
  3. Botero
  4. Levi
  5. Basso

The tour starts with a time trial which will begin to eliminate people early.  Botero's a strong TT'er and he had a great Dauphine.  Floyd's never led a team, so eventually Phonak will throw their weight to Botero.

Vino's had a great spring and has looked good going into the tour.  Jan showed he's the same Jan in the Tour de Suisse.  He'll get in the lead group, the road goes uphill, someone attacks and he can't respond.  Vino can and he's a good going on great TT'er.

Lance wins because he's the best TdF cyclist ever!  Period.  End of discussion.

Levi had a GREAT Dauphine...maybe too great.  He may have peaked too early, but I'm going with my guy.

Oh, and Zakk, Basso comes in 5th.  The Giro hurts him here.

Overall for the US it's going to be the best Tour ever.  Look for Dave Zabriske to have a great TT and be in the top 10 today.
