AirTran has cheap tickets to Tampa (www.airtran.com) if you live nearby one of the airports they fly into.

I'm good to go. Just made my ticket reservations to fly into Ft Myers on Friday, staying with sister in law, driving up to Tampa on Saturday then back on Monday, flying back home on Tuesday. Also have my hotel reservation too. I can't wait! Now I just need to make my T-shirt!!

Max - I can't wait to see you there!

I am staying with a freind about 45 minutes away. I'll have to get the official BT party schedule so I can plan accordingly. I think I'll only make it to one of them since I'll have the kids with me too - so I want to make sure I pick the one with the most beer.

OK, I'm in. I have a plane ticket and I'm registered for the marathon. All I need to do is decide where I'm staying. I'm flying in Fri eve and leaving Mon am. Now I need to get that shirt made.

Just FYI for everyone...

I posted the address in the t-shirt thread but I'm gonna post it here too so you're not all searching for it. It's my work address, cuz I don't want the freako's in the apartment leasing office signing for my stuff!

Just let me know when you send the shirt and the SASE so I know when to expect it. You can PM me, or just email me at [email protected]. I can turn it around in a day. And then I'll let you know when I've sent it back.

Can't wait to get these started! I'm making one for myself for tomorrow's OUC Half Marathon here in Orlando, I'll post a pic of how it turns out so y'all can see what yours might look like!

Good question Betsy...I don't think it did last year, there was an odd number of runners, and it wasn't a huge number. I can't imagine that, if it hasn't already, it will anytime soon. But I don't wanna be quoted on that!!!

Jessica and I have sussed out a good place for a BT gathering - Howl At the Moon. Good place for singalongs and silliness. Unless you don't like profanities. The piano guys get a little profane. Ok, so if you're not faint of heart you'll have a rockin' good time.

Hey all...OK so Howl At The Moon for drinks and fun. I'm there. I love those dueling piano things, there's a really great one down in Jupiter, although I can't recall the name. But when you walk in, you have to give the whole place the finger, and then the piano guys go "Hey look...F#%K the new people!!!!" It's kinda funny. OK enough of that, I actually have a real question...

  • ..about where to get food the night before. I know we've discussed making a decision later down the road...but a friend of mine has asked me about the event-sponsored pasta party that's happening the night before the big races (Saturday evening) and wanted to know if we were interested in going to that. I know we've got time but I think they're looking to get reservations early or something.

  • I told her there are 32 of us so far, and if all (or most) of us meet up for the pre-race meal, any restaurant is gonna freak out when they say "How many?" and we're like..."Oh...25 or 30 I guess". Can you see the expression on the host/hostess's face? LOL But anyway, if we do in fact decide to meet up for the pre-race meal, maybe we should consider the event-sponsored pasta party. One drawback...the cost...$30. I'm good with whatever we decide but I'd love to get some feedback on what y'all think.

    Thanks!!!!

I've had a business lunch at that Hyatt and they do a pasta bar/assortment thing. It wasn't bad and it would be convenient for us to get together there. $30 for pasta sounds pricey, though. We could have excellent pasta at Pane Rustica for about $12 but that would require a short (10 min) car ride. Bella's Italian Cafe would also require a car ride; it's not as good as Pane Rustica but it's more mainstream and their wood-fired pizzas are pretty good. They also have outdoor seating.

There's also a couple of restaurants at Wyndham Harbour Island (no driving).

There's also a FirstWatch restaurant downtown (breakfast and lunch). Good food.

What about post race massages?  Anyone up for one?

I really want to get one, but don't want to get one in the massage tent at the race finish.  I would rahter go a to spa and get one from a professional in a relaxing environment, rather than being outside in my stinky running clothes being massaged by students.  Do any of ya'll know of a spa that would be close to where I'll be staying (downtown) where I could make an appointment?  Just let me know- thanks!

Yeah, I'd definitely be more willing to spend less money, even if it's a short ride to get where we need to go. Hell, we can all bring our bikes! Wait...run the next morning...uhhhh...nope! Haha!!Thirty bux IS pricey for pasta. I know they have extra events and stuff there, but still.

Oh I'm there with ya! I'll bet Renee knows a spa where we could all go and get massages afterwards. Or I can just recruit a couple of my friends who are LMT's to follow us out there and do some in-room massage...it'd be cheaper. Still though, a spa day sounds sooooooooo nice after all that running!

My LMT is a former triathlete and his place is just - you guessed it - 10 minutes from downtown.

Let me know if you want me to hook you up with Nick. He gives great maaasssssaaaage.

    Hehe...you sound like Austin Powers.

    "O-o-o-oh, you mean a senssssssyew-al MASSazhhhhh?" LOL

Yeah I think this time I should get a post-race massage cuz after the Disney Marathon, I could hardly walk. Actually that night at the Pleasure Island runners party, my friend Terri and I (she did the half) couldn't even stay because the bottoms of our feet and our knees were so tired and in pain. I wanna be able to party after this race...so I'd better go get a massage to detox myself!!!

AFter Disney I could barely walk.  Then I paid $20 to get a 20 min. massage by some students.  The massage wasn't great at all- they did a crappy job.  But what little they did helped- it wasn't as painful to walk.  So I'm thinking that I want to get a professional massage after Gasparilla and i should be ready to party!

I'll definitely want to book an appt. Renee!  Just trying to figure out a time.  I'll want to stick around and see all the Bt'ers finish, then go back adn shower, and then a massage, and nap?  I've always tried to nap after a marathon and never had luck.  I was tire,d but could never fall asleep.  I think a massage would be good to help me nap afterwards

You bet! Just tell him to use Lavender and Chamomile during the massage. Both very relaxing aromatherapy oils. Also, some Calendula may help with the aches. Calendula is one of the most naturally healing oils. I used to work in a spa (my favorite job, too bad it paid crappy!!) and I used to use it all the time on cuts and scrapes. I used Lavender oil in a bath, and Calendula lotion afterwards to help with the aches and to relax my body after all that trauma.
