MadMathemagician - 2010-05-28 10:53 AM My preferred metric is to measure everything in furlongs per fortnight.

I was going to say the exact same.  I was going to throw Kelvin or Rankin in there too for good measure (I'm an engineer by degree).  My first pop quiz in chemistry class in college was one question - convert warp 9 to furlongs per fortnight.  Of course, this quickly degenerated into a discussion of what speed warp 9 really was since the original series and the next generation defined these differently.

I have no problem switching back and forth in my head. Simple math to convert one way or the other if necessary.

And then you'd be dissapointed when you're still 680 meters from the finish line...

4:54 is 4.90 minutes/km
x10 km
= 49 minutes for a 10K.

Such an embarrassing fail on my part....jesus, what an idiot. I'll stick with miles...LOL.

When I run 7:53 miles (or 4:54 km's) I am too oxygen deprived to do math correctly.

When everyone switches to metric time, then it'll all fall into place for you...

That's just me, of course.....   but then, I am a mathematician and physicist.   Cool

It just numbers....

How about cubits and leagues?

For some reason I just started off in meters for swimming and go with that (probably because its a 50 meter pool split to 2x25meters).  Biking and running are still miles.

Cubics and leagues are perfectly fine, but they aren't alliterative.

Still, if you were asked for the width of your living room at home, would your first answer be in feet, or meters, or furlongs? I would convert to whatever was needed too, but my first estimated thought would be in feet, even after using metric for quite a few years now.

Yes please. Switch. Then when I read your logs, I'll know what distances you are talking about.
