Veteran 262 Clarksvile | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Just swam the reservoir today it’s almost 20 to 25 feet lower since the Bolder Peak Tri last month and it was bath water warm. I wonder if it’s going to be wet suit legal for Race day. I drove the course because I decided to forget my riding shoes after driving up from the Springs. The Course does not seem too bad, but no course seems bad when you drive it. Anyways I’m getting very motivated especially since “Old Stage Road” is not on the route. |

Member 220 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Wow, 20-25 feet lower? That's crazy. I really don't care if it's wetsuit legal or not, since I'm not anywhere near good enough to care about being eligible for AG awards. I did, however, borrow a sleeveless wetsuit since I have a feeling it's going to be waaaay too warm for the full sleeve! Oh, and the course is really not bad at all. I did it (more or less) last weekend, and even with being in a horrible place mentally and having all motivation completely sucked out of me before I finished the first loop, I still averaged a very respectable speed (for me). It's kind of slow coming out of the res and climbing for the first part, but you make up for that once you make the turn onto St Vrain. |

Master 1402 Highlands Ranch | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Depending on the rains over the next week, the level could fluctuate quite a bit, and the temp may bounce up or down a few degrees. The gravel pond was pretty warm this morning too, though water clarity was way down. |

My family came late to the Peak and got charged $20 per car to enter the res. I would have them come before 7am or they may be charged. Went out on the bike course today. Lots of riders out! |

No but if I don't wear my suit because of the heat and everyone else wears their suit I'll be at a disadvantage. |

Veteran 274 Arvada | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Can someone clarify that...I thought for AG's that the water temp could be like in the 80's before there was no wetsuit? Is this right? I'm doing an Oly this weekend and would not be happy if I couldn't wear my wetsuit. I can't really imagine that the water gets into the 80's here, does it? But I guess 76 is close so maybe it does. |

Member 220 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited. So, in other words, I'm wearing a wetsuit, since I don't have even the slightest chance of being even close to awards. :P A picture sounds like a good idea, not to mention actually meeting some of you! Of course, I tend to be scattered before a race start, but I'll do my best to remember and know what time it is! :-D |

Master 1402 Highlands Ranch | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Most lap pools are maintained between 76 and 80, anything warmer get a little uncomfortable for hard swimming. If it hits 78, I'll ditch the wet-suit - any gain from buoyancy is lost for me in restricted movement, and getting the darn thing off in transition |

And I hear from most if it is close or questionable the water temp measured magically goes to 77.5 degrees. I would put money on wetsuits being legit for the race. I will be there for the pic! |

Yeah, the water temp @ Ironman 70.3 Kansas magically dropped to 77.5 overnight- from 81 the day before. I'm sure you'll be fine. |

Member 98 Rocky Mountain High | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread TONS of Newbie Questions!!! This is my first tri or race of any kind so I am a little nervous as this race is coming up on this Sunday and I have no prior experience (and have an ankle/foot injury...which is just my luck)!! Do I have to wear a shirt under my wetsuit for the swim...if wetsuits are permitted?? I read that you must a wear a shirt at all times....is that just for the bike leg???......and can I go shirtless for the run if it is just for the bike leg?? I also read in this thread that there is tons of areas for water, so should I bring my own water bottles for my bike and run? I am planning on borrowing a fuel belt from a friend for the run?? Last one....should I bring my own gel packs/nutrition to the race or will there be vendors at the race providing this?? I know a lot these will be answered at check in, but wanted to prepare before then just in case!! Sorry for so many questions!! THANKS!! Cheers!! -Nick |

While the race has fluids and Gu, bars etc on the course it is your call whether or not you want to bring your own or not. If you haven't trained with what the race is providing, I would encourage you to bring your own. "nothing new on race day" Edited by Kath2163 2010-08-04 12:42 PM |

The bike number is a sticker so you don't need anything for that. They give you two bib numbers as they want you to have the number on your back during the bike and in front on the run. They provide pins. I use a race belt so I only need one number. I just turn belt around for the bike and back in front for the run. |
