Subject: RE: how to test LT? You can go to a sports physiolgist to have it tested clinically...usually costs about $100-150. You can also do a time trial on your own with a HRM...either running or biking but you shouldn't apply one test to the other sport. You're looking to do a 30min all out effort after a good warm up. 10min into the hard effort you should hit the "lap" button on your HRM so you can get an average HR over the last 20min...this is approximately your LT. The goal is to push to your limits and have nothing left when you're done. I recently did a LT test on my bike trainer and could barely turn the cranks for about 5min after I finished. You want to pick a gear that you can maintain 90+rpm for the entire 30min and finish exhausted. The harder you push the better your LT estimate will be. |
