Year one for me. One sprint and one OLY so far with one international distance scheduled for October.

I plan on following a similar progression as others. Next year I will do another OLY in the spring and then try for a HIM at the end of the summer.

2nd.  In some senses of the term, I consider myself a beginner.  In others, not really.

2nd

Rookie/beginner year at the Half-Iron distance, where I plan to stay for another year or so.

I think the different training and race-day nutrition needed for the Half-Iron and Ironman distance races, it's tough to claim you're not a beginner when you step up to either of those distances.

If it takes me 5 yrs to get to the Ironman distance, I'll call myself a beginner that year, even if I've got 15 HIM finisher medals in the closet.

I'm just short of the one year anniversary of my first sprint, so totally a beginner.

2nd year - 9 races completed, next one is Sept. 4th. Mostly sprints, the 4th will be my 2nd OLY.  I think of myself as a beginner because I still learn something new with every race, new distance and training plan!

Another year 0, here.

I have a sprint tri this weekend. I’m planning on DFL since I still haven’t worked up to being able to run a 5K.

My real goal is an Olympic tri in June 2011 for my 40th birthday.

If I keep going with tris, I think I’ll consider 2011 my first season.

Started in July 2005, according to my math, this is my 6th season. 24 tris (plus a good assortment of du's and running races) A variety of sprint, oly and HIM races. Countless friends made.

Started out in 1994, another in 95. Missed a few years, now I haven't missed since 1999.

I am about to cap off my 3rd season of tris with IMWI in 2 weeks.  I don't feel like a beginner anymore, but that's probably because I've done at least 20 tris in those 3 years

Technically third. Started in the 80s. Took a break and started again 2009. Figured I had rested and gained enough weight.

This is my 3rd season.  Like Experior said, in some ways I still consider myself a beginner, but in others, I feel like I know what I'm doing.

This is my fifth season, which is hard to believe.  I did my first HIM this summer as well as lots of other races.  This year I had a pretty detailed training plan and was able to see some good progress.  The run still is my weakness.

This is the end of my sixth season doing triathlon. I still feel like a beginner at times, since the more I learn the less I think I know for sure.

I did 6 races in 2007 and a few in 2008 but did not race any in 2009 or this year so i guess 4 years in the sport but only 2 seasons of racing.  And some would say because I haven't raced in 2 years I'm not really a triathlete either.

Wow!  This is awesome!  I hope I make it that long.  I'm in my 13th year so I'm just 1/2 way there.

ETA - Based on your avatar picture, you must have done your firt tri on a tricycle at age 4.  :-)

Rogillio - 2010-08-27 1:31 PM While I know there are a few people who have done triathlons for years, my guess is that BT is if fact still a beginner triathlon site.  So what year of triathlon are you in?  Do you still think of yourself as a beginner?  I think of myself as a MOP in terms of experience...even thought I race BOP.

~Mike

Count me in for that statement. This is year 11 for me. My first race was in 1986, and stopped from 1990 to 2002. And boy, did the sport ever change during that break!

My first race was in 1989.
I just found my old Triathlon Federation USA card from 1993 the other day when I was looking for something else!
That was my last year until becoming what I consider a "Beginner" again this year.
So I am saying this is my year one.... again.

It is amazing how things esp technology has changed in that short time away!

2nd year...at the end of this season I will have completed a grand total of 7 sprints and 4 Oly's. Looking forward to the day I can't count them all. Starting off next season with my first HIM (Mooseman in June), where I will be a complete newbie when it comes to pacing, nutrition, and following a training plan. Lots to learn!

This is my fourth tri season, although I got off the couch and did a duathlon in 2006.  I don't feel like a beginner and instead am feeling kind of old and haggard at this point    I have done 23 triathlons in that time, so by some standards that averages out to about 10 seasons.  That isn't counting the running races, etc.    I am on my way to filling up my 3rd page of race reports (25/page).  WOW.

Season 0 for me too, with my first tri coming up three weeks from today.  I'm getting really excited for it!  That's the only one I'm planning on doing this year, but if it goes well and is fun I'll look forward to next season. Smile
