I think I'll try this.  When does it start?  We haven't had many cold days yet, but we will.  Snow?  Who knows.  Too bad snow on the ground doesn't count.  I live in the country and not usually first on the priority of being plowed.  (Only house on a dead end road).  They took good care of us when my wife was preggers so I won't complain.

I love that the polar bear is listed. I have that on my list of 2011 events. Jan 1st at noon the ice gets cut off of Lake Ontario and all the crazy people hop in!

If you play it right and last 5 minutes and it is 10 degrees out and snowing - you can get some major points

I am not that crazy!!

No more crazy than me I guess... which doesn't provide much defense! How many years have you been doing it for? This is my first year, I've finally given up convincing friends to join me and am doing it alone. Husband will be providing support by standing on the sidelines with my towl and dry clothes.

Me and Brewer are back for a 3rd year! I have to redeem myself from last year, I think I finished 3rd.
I will be training for a 50K ski race in Feb so I should be outside a lot.
We are already getting some morning temps below 40 so we should be able to get some points come November.

I fell off the wagon last year and didn't record my cold weather efforts.  I will this year.  Count me in especially since my bike commute grew a lot with my new job.

O C, 50 km head winds, rain and sleet and snow. Normal 70 min ride took 90 min. I may have been colder in my life but I don't know when.

You all lucky this challenge doesn't start until November.

Looking forward to it as always.

I should wish everyone good luck in this, this is my first year and just so everyone knows, I do several PB's during the winter and all of my open water swim training is in Lake Superior. As for bike and run, I live in Sault Ste Marie, MI right on the International Border, I usually ride my Mt Bike during the winter months, and usually have to buy a new one every spring. The wind is almost always blowing an easy 30-40 mph here, and two years ago we had a week of -40 weather, which I foolishly ran in, so good luck guys.

Looks like we have some real crazies joining the challenge this year   Looking forward to it -- makes winter training more enjoyable.  I picked up a used mtn bike recently so hope to be riding that all winter, as well as trail running and weekend road rides.

How does a snowbike differ from a mtn bike, Bill?

I'm in!  This is my first attempt at the winter challenge, but I'm always open to new things.  It doesn't get too too cold here in Tokyo, but I'll have more fun participating and watching the stories come in from the true polar bears.

I'm ready, we had our first snow of the year this morning, too bad I didn't get any sleep last night (daghter had bad dreams) or I would have been riding in snow at 7 AM.

Actually now that I think about it this is almost two weeks later than usual for our first snow.

Gotta love Northern Michigan weather.

It's a good thing we aren't going now, I just got home, and out of the shower, from a 25 mile ride, last one for my road bike this year, and it is currently 36 degrees and snowing, with a good 20 mph wind just to make things truely fun. I need to get a cup of hot tea and turn on the electric fire to thaw what the shower didn't.
